While China and Russia are all working on expanding their Nuclear arsenal, DNC Apparatchik and Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith of Washington State, recently declared he believes that the US should be working to decrease its nuclear arsenal, not meeting the external threats that can plainly be seen.

The top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee is pressuring the Biden administration to limit upgrades to the nuclear arsenal that military brass and experts consider vital.

Armed Services chairman Adam Smith (Wash.) on Monday sent a letter to the White House that asks President Biden to reduce the United States’ nuclear arsenal as he considers the 2023 defense budget.

“When asked about the requirements for all of these systems, the Department of Defense quickly points to Russian and Chinese investment in nuclear weapons, which I fear leads us down the path to a newly invigorated and very dangerous arms race,” Smith wrote. “The last decade has taught us, painfully, that we cannot afford to continue adding new requirements, capabilities, and platforms, and expect that they will be delivered on time and within budget.”

Autonomous Drones with a Licence to Kill

PGC – Militaries around the world are wrestling with relying on artificially intelligence powered autonomous machines, be they robots or drones, or even robot drones, to determine the appropriate time to apply lethal force and the time to show restraint.

In our reality of power, framed as it is around coercive-based nation-state models of organizing, the countries themselves not only must consider the ramifications of autonomous non-human killers for their population at large, but what their decision will mean as far as meeting the threat of competing nation states.

The very model at large of nation-statism compels these entities to need to seek the more lethal-producing patterns over the more citizen-autonomoy-patterns for fear that their competitors will be more effective at killing than theirs, and thus leave them vulnerable to absortion by those around them.

It’s a nation eat nation world out there folks, and against this backdrop what we mostly have are the nations that are able, and more and more can, to develop inhouse models of effective non-human autonomous killing platform are compelled to do so, for if they fail to do so, no matter the risk, or the backlash from the people they allegedly serve, they are almost sure to lose to the nation-states around them if they fail to act now.

This writer has little doubt that the United States form of people that do such things is busy building more and more effective autonomous killers to be run by ai deep learners that are more and more efficent at producing the desired desults of the humans that began them.  This writer also has little doubt that the ability to create such tools is already available for the motivated poorest of nation-states, even for a small group of people who want to build up their defenses among themselves.

A world of the future could involve printing ai-fortified-to-autonomous guardians of very types who constantly sweep the skies, the seas, the forests, the boundaries, looking for threats.  The world could be peppered with hundreds of thousands of city-states, all more or less equally capable of sending out drone hordes to make conquest prohibitively expensive

This could be a world where small scale vanquishes the large scale for a significant season of human history to come, though eventually the large scale will come roaring back, leaving this age to come a golden age for the ages to come after that.

It might sound like the stuff of science fiction but killer robots, sometimes called “slaughterbots”, are already a reality.

Last year, STM Kargu-2 drones hunted down targets in what might be the first instance of artificial intelligence killing on its own initiative.

The revelation came after years of experts warning about the dangers of letting machines decide who lives and dies in combat.

Now a UN conference on so-called Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) is taking place in Geneva to create new international regulations to stop killer robots being allowed to make their own decisions.

The Russian delegate argued no new rules are needed, but others disagree, saying machines shouldn’t be given the power to choose targets themselves.

“Humans must apply the rules of international humanitarian law in carrying out attacks so weapons that function in this way complicate that,” Dr Neil Davison of the International Committee of the Red Cross told BBC Radio’s Today programme.

“Our view is that an algorithm shouldn’t decide who lives or dies.”

San Diego-based U.S. 3rd Fleet relocated its command-and-control hub to Hawaii to support the Navy’s Large Scale Exercise 2021 and join an integrated exercise that’s combining live ships, including the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), and new technologies with simulated forces designed to synchronize the joint force.

Third Fleet staff set up shop in an expeditionary maritime operations center at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam that was raised over three days with help from Joint Mobile Ashore Support Team Pacific, officials said. The EMOC – a series of large, air-conditioned tents housing command-and-control systems – is serving as the fleet’s forward-based headquarters during LSE 21, which began Aug. 3 and runs through Aug. 16.

“The power of 3rd Fleet is our ability to integrate warfighters, command battlespace, fight and win,” Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Steve Koehler said in a statement. “We go where the fight takes us, and we maintain the warfighting advantage through our ability to solve problems and innovate in the middle of that fight. We can do that from a tent ashore, a ship in the Pacific or anywhere else there is a need.”

Taliban Take Five Major Capitals in Five Days

PGC – After the US pullout from Afghanistan, there was at least some token assurance in the US confidence in its Afghan counterparts in being able to deal with the Taliban threat without American power.

The effort was not great, and anyone with a basic understanding of geopolitical analysis could read between much that wasn’t expressed that the Americans knew full well the pro-Afghanis were being left to the wolves for slaughter.

So far, those of us that read such conclusions from how the Americans conducted themselves leading up withdrawal are being proven right as the Taliban is marching through Afghanistan seemingly only limited by how fast they can travel.

The Taliban have taken 5 major provincial capitals in the last 4 days, even withstanding B-52 bombings that seem to have little to no effect.

Even as we speak, the Taliban Empire we said we needed to destroy to finally end terrorism is reforming itself, and it is only smarter and more determined than it was when we first arrived after September 11th, 2001.  While that Empire revitalizes and contemporizes technologically, the American Empire seems to be retreating and dividing from within.  Oh what a 20 years it’s been.

Almost Half a Mil in Fines and Jail for WWII Panther Tank Collector

A retired 84 Year old German man has ended his national trial facing jail time and nearly half a million dollars in fines.  His fines and jail sentence come from his collection of World War Two memorabilia, which seemed to focus on high-powered artillery.  That included a German Panther Tank, an Anti-Aircraft Gun, and a Torpedo.

The collection also included Nazi memorabilia, though the arrest seems connected to the storage of illegal weapons than his potential Nazi connection.  The article does not address whether the man was a Nazi supporter, a serious collector, or, perhaps just a crazy old man.

The trial of an 84-year-old German man and his collection of WWII artillery has come to an end. The man, who was not named as a result of German privacy laws, has been handed a suspended 14-month prison sentence and ordered to pay a €250,000 ($293,700 USD) fine.

Authorities raided the man’s house in 2015 and found a World War II-era Panther tank, an anti-aircraft gun, a torpedo, a horde of Nazi memorabilia, and more. It took the military 9 hours to remove the tank, which had no tracks, from the man’s basement.

On August 5, a live-fire training exercise with authorized weapons and equipment of the Exercise ZAPAD/INTERACTION-2021 was held at the combined arms tactical training base of the PLA Army in Qingtongxia City of West China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. This was the first time for Russian participants to use armored assault vehicles, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and other main battle equipment provided by China on a large scale in the drill. The Chinese side set up a teaching group to help the Russian troops master the equipment as quickly as possible.

The teaching group made the Russian version of the equipment operation manual, recorded instructional videos, and used driving simulators, shooting simulators, and simulated radio stations to help Russian troops familiarize themselves with the operation of equipment and enter the combat state as soon as possible.

China Creates Western Silos that P

PGC – While American corporations continue to get cozy with the world’s  most advanced and powerful nationalist state, that same nationalist state, China, is now able to claim that American soil is now within range of their big guns, nuclear missiles that could reach the US.

US Satellite surveillance has finally revealed a network of nuclear missile silos constructed in Western China that now mean the US is within firing shot of Chinese nuclear missiles.  Meanwhile, American Wrestling Legend John Cena is apologizing in perfect Mandarin to Chairman Xi over ‘mistakenly’ calling Taiwan a nation.

Admittedly, our own corporations, and many of our our political leaders, are coming across like this guy, a Spartan political leader on the payroll of the Persians who was working to undermine the Spartan resolve to help Athens meet the invading Persians.
