As superbugs become increasingly dangerous to human health, NC State researchers have developed a soft material that preserves medicines capable of treating infections without the risk of antimicrobial resistance.

With his colleague Christopher Gorman in the Department of Chemistry and students Ryan Smith and Juliana O’Brien, Stefano Menegatti, a University Faculty Scholar and an associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, developed new dendrimers — highly structured macromolecules — that act as a glue around nanoparticle templates. Such templates include bacteriophages, which are viruses that can infect and attack harmful bacteria in the body. While they can be an alternative to traditional antibiotics, they can be difficult to formulate and stabilize as a medicine. To remain safe and effective, therapeutic bacteriophages need to be protected from environmental changes.

Georgia Sewers Yield Killer Bacteria Res

Researchers in the University of Georgia have discovered the existence of a gene that could create widespread antimicrobial resistance, which would put humanity existentially at risk.

The gene has long been feared to exist, and now that they’ve discovered it occuring in nature, the concern has moved very much out of the theoretical and into the real.

The risk is considered in the top 10 of potential risks to human existance.

Gene discovered in Georgia water a possible global threat

A gene that causes bacteria to be resistant to one of the world’s most important antibiotics, colistin, has been detected in sewer water in Georgia. The presence of the MCR-9 gene is a major concern for public health because it causes antimicrobial resistance, a problem that the World Health Organization has declared “one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity.”

Researchers from the University of Georgia’s Center for Food Safety (CFS) collected sewage water from an urban setting in Georgia to test for the MCR gene in naturally present bacteria. Led by College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences assistant professor Issmat Kassem, whose research focuses on MCR’s presence around the world, the team was surprised at how quickly they detected MCR—they found evidence of the gene in the first sample they took.

Kassem said that demonstrates that the gene is becoming established in the U.S.

The bacteria where the gene was found, Morganella morganii, added further concern for Kassem. This marked the first time that MCR was found in M. morganii, which is problematic because it is a bacteria not often tested by researchers. This means that the problem could be considerably more widespread than initially thought.

Scientists behind the scenes working under Dr. Anthony Fauci were speculating early on that the Coronavirus that now dominates our lives was more than likely human-created, and more than likely leaked from a Wuhan, China lab, the same lab Fauci and these same scientists have been working with and, in part funding.

Emails show scientists told Fauci the lab-leak theory was possible. He called it a conspiracy anyway.

New information from previously redacted emails confirms that scientists consulting with government officials believed that the COVID-19 lab-leak origins hypothesis was not only possible but perhaps even likely, before Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins worked to denounce the theory as a conspiracy.

In a letter to the head of the Department of Health and Human Services, House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Committee on Oversight and Reform ranking member Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) revealed the text of redacted emails from February 2020 in which prominent public health scientists discussed the origins of COVID-19 with Fauci and Collins. Some of the emails revealed previously unknown details of what was discussed in a secretive Feb. 1, 2020, conference call in which at least 11 scientists convened to examine the possible origins of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused a global pandemic and radically transformed the lives of almost everyone in…

Critics demanded answers from CDC director Rochelle Walensky Sunday after she hedged on how many of the COVID-19-related deaths in the U.S. were directly due to the virus and how many were individuals who died with COVID-19 yet had underlying conditions.

“Do you know how many of the 836,000 deaths in the U.S. linked to COVID are from COVID or how many are with COVID, but they had other comorbidities? Do you have that breakdown?” Bret Baier asked Walensky on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Yes of course with omicron we’re following that very carefully,” Walensky responded. “Our death registry of course takes a few weeks…to collect. And of course omicron has just been with us for a few weeks. But those data will be forthcoming.”

Is Fake News Killing Covid-19 Patients?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is accusing the Federal Government of failing to deliver potentially life-saving Covid-19 therapies in the form of an antibiotic called Monoclonal.

The initial emergence of the antibiotic as a potential effective therapy for Covid-19 patients came at a time when the DNC and its Corporate allies found tremendous advantage in continuing to hold Americans in a state of lockdown emergency.

News of an effective Covid-19 treatment could hamper those efforts, so all early claims of the antibiotic being an effective treatment were deleted from the Internet, along with many of the people that shared such dangerous thoughts. Now, the antibiotic is still continuing to show effectiveness at reducing serious illness and death in Covid-19 significantly, yet the Feds appear still basing their approach on the early fake news reports created by CNN, Washington Post, etc, that all sought to stigmatize the treatment and downplay its effectiveness.

To be sure, there was also plenty of agit prop on the other side proclaiming the drug to be far more effective than it actually appears to be, and these more extreme claims were the strawmen the DNC-controlled media used to disparage anyone advocating for the drug as a treatment, even anyone who might have directly benefited from the treatment.

This tactic, the use-the-nuts tactic, is one often used by the DNC, find the most extreme, insane version of the enemy and hold that up as the totality of the enemy you are seeking to vilify.

Feds Being ‘Scarce’ with Monoclonal Antibody Distribution Is ‘Leading to People Dying’

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said that the federal government hasn’t given Florida the monoclonal antibody treatments it needs and governors can’t get supplies on their own due to the federal government taking control of the supply and the lack of monoclonal antibody treatments “is absolutely leading to people dying.”

DeSantis stated, [relevant remarks begin around 2:15] “I think with the monoclonals, that is absolutely leading to people dying. Because we saw when we put in our sites this summer in Florida to deal with the Delta wave, we kept tens of thousands of people out of the hospital. We saved thousands of lives by providing that treatment. So, that should have been replicated in all these other states, but instead, what Biden and his cronies have done, they’ve seized control of all the monoclonal antibodies. So, yes, when we were in the pinch, I bought some myself. None of the governors now are able…

South Africa Suggest Omicron a Hype Train

While many parts of America prepare to shut down over the spreading threat of Omicron, South African numbers, where Omicron appears to have originated, suggest the hype might not nearly be met by the actual threat, as Omicron appears to be significantly less harmful to humans than the Delta variant is.

South Africa study suggests lower risk of hospitalization with Omicron, but will other countries see the same?

London – People infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus may face less risk of severe illness and hospitalization than those who catch Delta, a new study out of South Africa, which has not yet been peer reviewed, said Wednesday. But scientists warned that the findings could be a result of high levels of population immunity in South Africa due to previous coronavirus infections, and not an indication that Omicron is less severe.

The study found that people in South Africa who were diagnosed with Omicron between October 1 and November 30 were 80% less likely to be hospitalized than those diagnosed with another variant during that period. Once in the hospital during that period, however, the patients — no matter which variant they were diagnosed with — were just as likely to develop severe disease.

But compared to patients who were hospitalized with Delta between April and November, those hospitalized with Omicron in October and November were 70% less likely to…

Obamacare Spikes as Coronavirus Cancels Workplace Healthcare

As many Americans have recently lost healthcare coverage through work after being fired for not being vaccinated, they’re turning to Obamacare to cover the loss, driving the program to record high membership numbers.

A record number of Americans have signed up for health plans through the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces for 2022, after Congress lowered the cost of Obamacare insurance and the pandemic rocked many Americans’ employer-provided coverage.

The Department of Health and Human Services said on Wednesday that 13.6 million people had enrolled in coverage that will begin on Jan. 1, more than in any previous year of the program. Enrollment remains open until Jan. 15 for those who want coverage that would begin in February.

“What a great day it is to really see how the programs are working as they are intended,” Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which manages the marketplaces, told reporters on a conference call.

The Biden administration has invested heavily in promoting the availability of insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, and expanded the network of professionals available to help people enroll. But Ms….

I heard one of the authors of this new study commenting on how he was a gay man, and the purpose of his research was to show a genetic basis for homosexuality, in order to make it equal to race. His goal was to make it impossible to disagree with homosexual behavior, because homosexual behavior would be seen as natural and normal. Let’s see if his new study helps him out.

The blog of the peer-reviewed journal PLOS One reported on the new study, which was published in the prestigious journal Science.

The once-prevailing concept of a “gay gene” dictating sexual orientation has been put to rest in a powerhouse study published today in Science. The work brilliantly illustrates the very nature of science: evolving with the input of new data, especially the large-scale contributions of bioinformatics and crowd-sourcing.

“We formed a large international consortium and collected data for more than 500,000 people, comparing DNA and self-reported sexual behavior. This is…

Vaccine Plus Infection Could Create Super Immunity from Covid-19

A study from Oregon Health and Science University is suggesting that breakthrough Covid-19 infections,, infections of vaccinated people, could create “super immunity.”  The study was conducted during the Delta Variant spread of Covid.  The study does not compare its findings to the natural immunity people get who are infected without the vaccine.

COVID-19 vaccination provides a foundation of protection that’s enhanced by breakthrough infection; ‘the key is to get vaccinated.’

Breakthrough infections greatly enhance immune response to variants of the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a newly published study from Oregon Health & Science University.

The laboratory results, published online ahead of print in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), reveals that a breakthrough infection generates a robust immune response against the delta variant. Authors say the findings suggest the immune response is likely to be highly effective against other variants as the SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to mutate.

Will Omicron Lead to World Peace?

World Leaders ponder the creation of a world treaty to allow for governments to universally address the rising threat to the world that the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus is, even if it’s not at all sure that it is.  Either way, even if Omicron is all contagious and mild symptoms, a reprieve from the daily mullings of wanna-be world rulers fighting over scraps of better than their neighbors is welcome nonetheless

Omicron was the Black Friday surprise no one wanted. But this mysterious and alarming new coronavirus variant has injected itself into a global debate about vaccine inequality and pandemic responses at a potentially crucial moment.

Less than a week after the new variant was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) by South Africa, global leaders met Monday to discuss the creation of a new international agreement to better deal with historic outbreaks — what some advocates have dubbed a “pandemic treaty.” The special session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), only the second ever held by the WHO’s governing body, is expected to last until Wednesday.
