Little black dress goes Mobile!-Tech News

Mobile, Tech News, Cellular, Little Black Dress

From: http://mashable.com

London-based fashion company CuteCircuit has just upped the ante in the Little Black Dress category.

The company recently released images and a few details about its forthcoming M-Dress, a dark, richly textured, form-fitting silk jersey dress that also doubles as a cellphone. That’s right, you can make and receive calls with your current mobile number. From your dress.

Simply slip your SIM card underneath the garment label and you’re all set. The dress has special gesture recognition software that makes picking up a call as simple as raising a hand to your ear. (And yes, the dress rings. We were told that the default ring sounds like “Dilidilidilidliin dliin dliin.” Make of that what you will.) Dropping your hand will end the call, the manufacturer claims.

The dress will only be able to call a couple of pre-programmed numbers, CuteCircuit spokesperson Francesca Rosella informed us, pointing out that one of those numbers could be an operator’s. You will also be able to attach different ringtones to different numbers, so that you can determine who is calling.

Obama lacking in support for his Pro-Abortion Health Care Program-Obama News

Obama, Health Care, Abortion, Pro-Abortion, Obama News

From: http://lifenews.com

Support for ObamaCare, the national health care program President Barack Obama signed into law that contains taxpayer-funded abortions, dropped sharply in August, according to a new Kaiser Health Tracking Poll.

The results make it so one issue Democrats hoped to use to perform well in the upcoming elections will likely work against them.

The Kaiser poll has support for the pro-abortion government-run health care program dropping 7 percent to just 43 percent. Opposition rose 10 percentage points to 45 percent — the weakest showing for ObamaCare since Kaiser’s poll in May.

Democrats hoped support for ObamaCare would increase as the elections drew closer and it could tout some of the provisions they believe the public would support. But Drew Altman, president and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation, admits that’s not happening.

“Public opinion on health reform has been stuck in a fairly narrow band and is not changing dramatically,” he said. “And with concerns about the economy and jobs dominating the public’s agenda, and local issues always so important in midterm elections, it is not clear that health reform will play a significant role at the polls in November.”

R2D2 and Darth Vader as USB Hubs-Tech News

Star Wars, geeks, Darth Vader, R2D2, Tech News

From: http://gadgets.softpedia.com

We all know those USB ports are never enough and that going behind your computer every time you want to plug or unplug a device is not that nice, especially since no one seems to ever dust back there, so why not just add a few more ports via a USB hub.

And I am not talking about your everyday USB hub, but one of these new cool looking devices (if you are a Star Wars fan that is) that offer “authentic” character movie sounds while charging you devices.

Yes, thats right, you will hear R2D2′s bleeps and bloops or Darth Vader’s trademark ominous breathing, depending on what model you choose.

Now, on a more practical side, this things will get you an additional four USB ports so that makes them quite a decent solution, although not the greatest one out there, especially if you go for the Darth Vader figurine since all the ports are crammed together and some larger devices may block one or two connectors next to it.

Obama’s mistreatment (and disrespect) of Israel-Israel News

Israel News, Obama, Washington, mistreatment, disrespect, Middle East

From: http://writingtw.blogspot.com

As Israeli and Palestinian peace talks are scheduled to resume in Washington in a few days, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Palestinian recognition of Israel as the Jewish homeland is an essential condition for peace. Completely reasonable, yet don’t keep your fingers crossed, especially with the Obama administration’s attitude toward Israel. In my new book, “Crimes Against Liberty” (I know, another shameless plug, but you’d do the same in my position), I dedicate an entire chapter to detailing the Obama administration’s horrendous and unprecedented mistreatment of Israel. Can you believe we’re even having a discussion about Israel’s right to the land six-plus decades and numerous wars after the modern Israeli state was restored to the Jews?

It’s bad enough when misfit countries oppose Israel’s right to existence and always demonize Israel while downplaying the Palestinians’ misdeeds, but it’s shocking and disturbing when the president of the United States abuses our greatest ally in the Mideast.

It’s mystifying to me that so many Jewish people in America have been so tolerant of Obama’s behavior toward Israel, almost as if in denial, but what more evidence do we need?

During the campaign, it was widely suspected that Obama had strong ties with pro-Palestinian groups, not to mention his membership in the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church — one that is known for its sympathy for the causes of certain terrorist organizations and the Palestinian position.

The Los Angeles Times reportedly possessed and protected a damning video of Obama toasting Rashid Khalidi, a former PLO operative and an outspoken Israel critic who, after the 9/11 attacks, referred to the media’s “hysteria about suicide bombers.”

Terror Suspect states, “Ill kill 10 million jews before I kill 1 muslim”-Christian News

Terrorism, NY, Jews, Muslims, Islam, synagogue

From: http://www.ynetnews.com

A man accused of plotting to bomb New York synagogues and shoot down military planes ranted against Jews and mused about “taking down” targets in the United States, according to audio tapes played Monday at his federal trial.

The tapes were secretly recorded by a paid informant testifying against James Cromitie and three other men who were arrested in 2009 on their way to the synagogues.

he informant, Shahed Hussain, met Cromitie in 2008 after being sent by the FBI to infiltrate a Newburgh, NY mosque. While wearing a wire, he later taped conversations they had during meals at restaurants and in meetings at his home.

“Muslims want to take the US down,” Cromitie says on one tape played for the jury. “Believe me, we can do it with our regular Muslims here.”

Cromitie also bemoans American military ventures in the Middle East.

“What do we do to make it stop?” he says. “We start taking things down here, you understand?”

He adds: “I will kill 10 million (Jews) before I kill one Muslim.”

Democrats get reality check on their lack of popularity for November Elections-Election2010

Top Democrats are growing markedly more pessimistic about holding the House, privately conceding that the summertime economic and political recovery they were banking on will not likely materialize by Election Day.

In conversations with more than two dozen party insiders, most of whom requested anonymity to speak candidly about the state of play, Democrats in and out of Washington say they are increasingly alarmed about the economic and polling data they have seen in recent weeks.

Ground Zero Mosque developer does not blame Islam for 9/11 tradgedy-Religious News

Mosque, Islam, Sharif El-Gamal, New York City, Ground Zero, 9/11

From: http://www.fireandreamitchell.com

Sharif El-Gamal, the developer behind the Ground Zero Mosque was asked by CBS News’ Scott Pelley why does the “Park51″ have to be so close to Ground Zero? El-Gamal said that the location of the project never crossed his mind that is was too close to the site of the Sept. 11 attacks.  When asked why not, he replied, “Because I did not hold myself or my faith accountable for that tragedy.”

El-Gamal’s so called “faith” of course is Islam. Maybe El-Gamal doesn’t think Muslims attacked us on 9/11. Maybe he thinks it was the Jews, or Christians.

Public criticizes Beck for “overwhelmingly white” rallies-Political News

Glenn Beck, white, racist, racism, Restoring Honor, rally, conseravatives

From: http://newsbusters.org

If you thought media coverage of the Aug. 28 “Restoring Honor” rally hosted in Washington D.C. by Fox News host Glenn Beck seemed like just another attack on conservatives, you’re not alone. As noted by the Daily Caller’s Jim Treacher, much of the coverage had a common thread: describing the crowd as “overwhelmingly white.”

While the term was certainly used in coverage of Beck’s rally, it’s not a new label. “Overwhelmingly white” is a prime example of the media’s groupthink on Beck, Tea Parties, and the conservative movement in general. Virtually every major “mainstream” media outlet has used the phrase in just the past year to describe conservative events.

But even as the media criticize Tea Party and other conservative rallies for an apparent lack of diversity, they struggle to bring minority voices into their own operations.

All three broadcast networks have described the Tea Parties as “overwhelmingly white.” So have CNN, MSNBC, NPR, the Agence France Presse, The Washington Post, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, National Journal and US News & World Report. Many of those organizations are the very ones the news industry discusses as having failed to make diversity goals for staff.

The Iran Exodus begins as US armies pull out-World News

Iraq, army, war, world News, Obama News

From: http://www.reuters.com

U.S. troop levels were cut to 50,000 before the partly symbolic deadline of August 31 pledged by President Barack Obama to fulfill his pledge to end the war launched by his predecessor George W. Bush.

The six remaining U.S. brigades will turn their focus to training Iraqi police and troops as Iraq takes charge of its own destiny ahead of a full U.S. withdrawal by the end of next year.

“Iraq today is sovereign and independent,” Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told Iraqis in a televised address to mark the U.S. forces’ shift to assisting rather than leading the fight against a Sunni Islamist insurgency and Shi’ite militia.

“With the execution of the troop pullout, our relations with the United States have entered a new stage between two equal, sovereign countries.”

Obama promised war-weary U.S. voters he would extricate the United States from the war, launched by Bush with the stated aim of destroying Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

No such weapons were found. Almost a trillion dollars have been spent and more than 4,400 U.S. soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi civilians killed since the 2003 invasion.

Obama’s Democrats are battling to retain control of Congress in November elections and he faces other challenges — a worsening war in Afghanistan and storm clouds over the economy.

Tuesday’s deadline was to some extent a symbolic one. The 50,000 U.S. soldiers staying on in Iraq for another 16 months are a formidable and heavily-armed force.

Freedom of Worship over Freedom of Religion?

With the use of the term, “Worship”, is President Barack Hussein Obama setting the stage for narrowing the Constitutional definition of Freedom of Religion? We at The Freedomist have seen many signs that point to progressive assaults on the Freedom of Christians to practice their Faith in the full context of the world around them. As Obama begins to lob around the term “Worship”, as opposed to religion, we think he is setting the stage to define Freedom of Religion as Freedom to Worship in your church or in your home. But if you step one toe outside those two private places, shut your Christ-led mouth. Here is an excellent article by Ralph Benko of The Websters’ Dictionary.

From: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com

President Obama’s recent formulation, “Freedom of Worship” has the religiously serious aghast. It telegraphs a subversion of faith — by defending a right not in question, the right to conduct religious feasts and fasts and ceremonies, and downgrading religion’s heart, values.

The First Amendment interdicts the making of laws prohibiting the free exercise of religion. The president now replaces a strong and constitutional word, “Religion,” with a weak and chic one, “Worship,” which is religion defined by esthetics, not ethics. Implication: the Constitution protects our steeples and liturgy, not religious values.

No wonder the nonpartisan Pew Research Center finds that only one third of Americans believe our president to be a Christian. To which the White House replies: “The president is obviously a Christian. He prays every day.” This response is a non sequitur. Devout Moslems and Jews pray every day too. The president’s rhetorical dilution of faith makes claims of “obviously” ring inauthentic.

The political elites shamelessly are in the process of “defining devotion down” to liturgy — hey kids, totally up to you to decide whether the priest faces the altar or the congregation, knock yourselves out — and delegitimize the right to advocate for laws reflecting religiously informed values. A delegitimized right collapses, which is the objective of its adversaries.

Obama defends the cleaning up of the Oil Spill-Green News

Obama, Gulf Oil Spill, Green News

From: http://www.upi.com

U.S. President Barack Obama dismissed criticism of the federal response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, saying he’ll ensure “we get the job done.”

The administration has come under criticism from environmentalists and others for its response to the gulf oil crisis, prompting some to characterize the spill as “Obama’s Katrina” — a reference to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast five years ago.

The administration of President George W. Bush was criticized for its response to the Katrina emergency.

“We’ve got a lot more work to do,” Obama said in an interview Sunday with NBC News. “But the fact is because of the sturdiness and swiftness of the response, there’s a lot less oil hitting these shores and these beaches than anybody would have anticipated given the volume that was coming out of the BP oil well.”

Christine O’Donnell compared to Joe Miller?-Election 2010

Alaska, Christine O’Donnell, Delaware, Election, Joe Miller, Republicans, Senate, Tea Party

From: http://theothermccain.com

A friend was on the phone the other night and we were talking about the result in Alaska — where a half-million dollars in TV ads by the Tea Party Express helped push Joe Miller to a surprising victory — and my friend said, “Well, you know, now that they’ve finished up that Alaska thing, what about Delaware? . . . It’s only three counties. They could have a heckuva impact with just $150,000 there.”

Indeed, Christine O’Donnell has been endorsed by the Tea Party Express in her GOP Senate primary fight against RINO Mike Castle, and now national media are pondering such a possibility:

Castle, running for the seat formerly held by Vice President Joe Biden, is competing with long-shot opponent Christine O’Donnell, a conservative commentator . . . who has aligned herself with local tea party groups. . . .
The Tea Party Express sent out a fundraising appeal Friday focusing on the Delaware primary, that called Castle “one of the most vile RINO’s you will meet (Republican In Name Only).” The anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List has also endorsed O’Donnell. . . .
“Our biggest challenge right now is that not enough Republican voters know about this primary,” O’Donnell acknowledged, insisting that the race was still winnable. “It’s a closed primary against the most liberal Republican in the House.”
O’Donnell has also aggressively courted conservative Internet activists, appearing at the RightOnline conference in Las Vegas last month and focusing her message on the possibility of a lame duck Senate session where the winner of Delaware’s special Senate election might end up voting on key legislation. . . .

9/11 families say Pelosi has “lost her mind”-Ground Zero news

From: http://newyork.cbslocal.com

“I think it’s outrageous. She’s investigating 9/11 families whose sons were murdered on 9/11 rather than look at foreign entities that sponsor terrorism? I think she has her priorities mixed up and she’s lost her mind,” said Jim Riches, a former firefighter who lost his son in the World Trade Center attacks.

“They can look into all our funding. We’re regular families, regular citizens, like people who protested in 1776. We’re ordinary citizens and she’s coming out against us because we disagree with her.”

Actually, a lot of people disagree with building a mosque at ground zero.

A new Siena poll found that 63 percent of New Yorkers don’t want the mosque built near ground zero. Only 27 percent support it.

Obama says Economy not expanding fast enough-Business News

Obama, Finances, Economy, Business News

From: http://www.reuters.com

President Barack Obama said on Sunday the U.S. economy was expanding, but not quickly enough, and there was no “magic bullet” that will fix its problems.

Obama said in an NBC interview that the batch of grim economic data over the past few weeks was something his administration had anticipated.

Gloomy reports on gross domestic product and housing have raised fears the fragile economy could slip back into a recession or face a lengthy period of growth that is too slow to make much of a dent in the 9.5 percent unemployment rate.

“The economy is still growing, but it’s not growing as fast as it needs to,” Obama told NBC in the interview in New Orleans, where he stopped after a vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard.

Obama faces a dilemma in trying to reassure Americans about the economy without appearing to be out of touch with frustrations, which have been rising over the sluggish growth and scarcity of jobs.

Should California legalize the use of pot?-CA News

pot, weed, Poposition 19, California

From: http://www.csmonitor.com

Proposition 19 will not solve California’s economic woes. It does not require the state to impose a tax on marijuana; it only allows local governments to determine if and how they will tax pot, although the entire state risks increased billions in health and social expenditures resulting from increased use.

We have already seen and paid for the effects that tobacco and alcohol have had on society. If we learn from past experiences, we can conclude that marijuana would follow down the same path.

Legalizing marijuana use would substantially increase its already formidable costs to society. That’s because the initiative would allow individuals to possess up to about 120 joints and cultivate 25 square feet of plants, capable of yielding up to 240,000 joints.

This initiative will lead to Amsterdam-style pot cafes and more grow houses. Black market sales would continue and aggressively target children, while tax evasion would be inevitable since there is no formal way to regulate this drug, resulting in very little government revenue. Supporters of drug legalization seek to protect the selfish, perceived rights of the minority – drug users who want the freedom to use their drugs of choice – at the peril of the majority.

The Reid-Pelosi “Lame Duck” might be in danger as a new hunter emerges who might just shoot it right out of the sky!

John Fund of the Wall Street Journal has been banging the drum about possible plans by Pelosi and Reid to use the lame duck session of Congress after the November election to force through unpopular legislation using the votes of Democrats who might lose their bid for re-election. Fund has pointed to the potential for Democrats to gain support for unpopular bills, like Cap and Trade and the Disclose Act, by urging members who will be out of office when the new Congress comes into session to vote for these Bills which, prior to the election, could cost them votes.

Why is Mike Castle Running From Christine O’Donnell?

If Mike Castle becomes the next United States Senator from Delaware he is going to get sworn in, serve a bit, then become a Democrat, resign, and let Beau Biden get an appointment. It’s a done deal. The deal has been made already. I’m hearing this not just from Christine O’Donnell people, but party regulars in Delaware, some of whom support Castle. It is insane. Maybe that is why Mike Castle is running from Christine O’Donnell. He is afraid to have to answer questions about this. Tea Party: Mike Castle Is Just Another Arlen Specter

To the Tea Party, a vote for Delaware Senate hopeful Mike Castle (R) is a vote for a Democrat. Literally. Conservatives there are warning fellow tea partiers that if Castle gets elected, he’ll pull an Arlen Specter and switch parties when the going gets tough. So they’re endorsing his primary rival, Christine O’Donnell, instead. “We are confident Christine O’Donnell will beat Mike Castle in the upcoming primary,” , Delaware Vice President of the Independence Hall Tea Party PAC. “Christine is a strong grassroots favorite. Our nation’s founding principles of individual liberty and free enterprise are no longer viewed by our leaders as indispensable. We must stand up to the Washington elites and fight back against a Congress and White House intent on saddling us with their reckless spending, unbearable taxes and unfair policies that stifle our freedom and weigh down future generations with enormous debt.

Our country is going broke. Voters deserve candidates who believe deficits are wrong, and that deficits destroy nations just as surely as they do families. Spending money America does not have has become an appealing option for too many politicians and common sense men and women of America know this is not sustainable.

Mike Castle was one of the block of republicans that switched sides to vote for the monstrosity known as TARP.  Could this be a philosophical belief or did he have OTHER motives?  Mike Castle has proven to be a politician, in his career, that votes with the money.  If you take a look at his list of donors, you will find the big TARP benefactors amongst them.  Will Mike Castle stand for Constitutional values against the Obama-Reid-Pelosi Lame Duck congress?  We think not

2010 Race Watch: Christine O’Donnell in Delaware’s Senate Race

There is an interesting race in Delaware to see who will finish the remainder of Vice President Biden’s term in the U.S. Senate.  There is a contested Republican primary on September 14 with Christine O’Donnell challenging 9-term Congressman Mike Castle to be the Republican nominee to run against the Democratic nominee Chris Coons.

What I find appalling is that the Republican Party of Delaware is throwing its support behind Castle (at least they aren’t mentioning her on their website).  Shouldn’t the party be neutral in contested primaries?  I believe so, and I think Delaware would be wise to follow the Republican Party of Iowa’s example of neutrality and equal opportunity for candidates to get their message to Republicans in the state.

Mike Castle: King RINO!

June 8, 2010 By eTeam 4 Comments

Mike Castle is the ultimate Republican in Name Only. Remove RINOs calls him the Ace of Spades of liberal Republicans.

This establishment Republican has been in elected office for over 40 years. After serving in state government, he was elected to Congress in 1993, and since that time he has managed to compile one of the most liberal voting records in the GOP.

http://whyy.org/cms/news/government-politics/2010/03/10/odonnell-takes-aim-at-castle-in-senate-campaign-kick-off/32928

Republican Christine O’Donnell officially launched her campaign for U.S. Senate Wednesday in front of a handful of supporters at the University of Delaware’s Wilmington campus.

O’Donnell, who is described in her campaign website biography as a political commentator and marketing consultant, will face Delaware’s longest-serving U.S. Representative Mike Castle in a September primary.  She wasted no time in going on the offensive against Castle during her campaign announcement.  “Mike Castle is the most liberal Republican in the House.  This is not the year to be a liberal career politician who has consistently voted for the overspending and over-taxation that is bankrupting our country,” said O’Donnell.

I had the distinct honor and privilege of speaking with Christine O’Donnell to discuss her candidacy and her campaign to fill Joe Biden’s old US Senate seat in Delaware. There will be a Special Election primary on September 14 the winners of which will face off in the General in November. Christine O’Donnell would be an outstanding addition in the hallowed halls of the US Senate, and she deserves a closer look; on the issues she means to fight over, and the way in which she means to perform her duties should she prevail this fall. She has to get past the worst Republican in the House first though…Mike Castle…who she “lovingly” refers to as the King of the RINOs and the guy that has gone “Left” 70 % of the time he’s been in that House seat. More on Mr. Castle at a later date.

Delaware Republican Christine O’Donnell is planning to capitalize on the throngs expected at Glenn Beck’s Washington rally Saturday by capturing footage for a television ad she hopes to launch against Rep. Mike Castle in their Senate primary.

O’Donnell, a heavy underdog against the moderate nine-term congressman, told POLITICO Friday that her campaign will shoot footage of her among the estimated 2,000 Delaware residents attending the conservative demonstration.

Dems opposing Obama/Pelosi Job Killing Tax Increase-Business News

Tax increase, Democrats, Americans, business news, financial news

From: http://www.gop.gov

Unless Democrats take action, hard working Americans will face the largest tax increase in the nation’s history on January 1, 2011.  To date, Democrats have done nothing to stop the $3.8 trillion tax hike, leaving small business owners and families uncertain about their futures, and hesitant to spend, lend or invest.  With unemployment hovering near 10 percent, tax increases could not come at a worse possible time.

Rather than providing economic certainty, Democrats continue to play politics, threatening to levy higher taxes on some but not others.  This strategy provided fuel for the economic uncertainty that has helped to paralyze any prospect of an economic recovery.  Small business owners, not knowing what new government imposed costs tomorrow will bring, are reluctant to hire.  And if nothing is done, huge tax increases will be imposed on every taxpayer in the nation, taking money out of the hands of middle class families and small business owners and putting it into the pockets of Washington.  In recent weeks, many Democrats have bucked their leadership by publicly stating that in the midst of an economic contraction, Americans need tax relief—not job-killing tax increases.  Democratic leaders should heed those warnings and ensure that no tax increase occurs at this fragile moment in the life of our nation’s economic history.

Joe Miller worried Murkowski will push legal battle to save her seat in Senate-Political News

Lisa Murkowski, Joe Miller, legal, Senate, Political News

From: http://www.politicsdaily.com

Fairbanks lawyer Joe Miller, the Sarah Palin favorite who holds a slim lead in the undecided Alaska Republican Senate primary, says he fears incumbent Lisa Murkowski will push a protracted legal battle to keep her seat, pulling “an Al Franken, if you will.”

Miller’s mention of Franken is a reference to the 2008 Senate election in Minnesota, which was so close the outcome was disputed in court for months. But his singling out of Democrat Franken was somewhat puzzling, as it was the incumbent Republican, Norm Coleman, who trailed during the court review and legal wrangling. In other words, it would appear that Miller, the insurgent, is in the Franken role in 2010. He holds a 1,668-vote margin over Murkowski, according to the AP, with as many as 16,000 absentee ballots still to be counted.

Feds ready to step in if economy doesnt turn around soon-Business News

FRC, Economy, business news

From: http://finance.yahoo.com

U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Friday the economic recovery has weakened more than expected and the Fed is ready to take further steps if needed to spur slowing growth.

Bernanke’s comments, in an address to an annual conference of global central bankers held by the Fed, came as the government reported that economic growth in the second quarter was weaker than it had originally estimated.

With interest rates held at ultra-low levels since December 2008, the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed’s policy-setting body, has turned to other measures, pumping more close to $1.7 trillion into the economy.

“The committee is prepared to provide additional monetary accommodation through unconventional measures if it proves necessary, especially if the outlook were to deteriorate significantly,” Bernanke told the Fed conference, held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Behind the Action-The Taliban Rare Video Footage-Video, World News

Taliban, Video, Terrorism, World News
From: http://www.wired.com

Spend the next 21 minutes of your day watching this extremely rare footage of the war in Afghanistan’s Kunar Province — from the Taliban’s perspective. The video, released by an Australian TV news program, comes from Paul Refsdal, a Norwegian documentary journalist who embedded with a Taliban commander named Dawran earlier this year.

Most American troops spend their tours in Afghanistan with only the vaguest idea of who they’re fighting. In June, a Special Forces A-Team in the south reportedly couldn’t find the Taliban. It wasn’t so hard for Refsdal. This self-described “tall white man” managed to effectively infiltrate the insurgency in one of its bastions. The only other person we know to have done anything similar is our crazy friend Nir Rosen, who’s been known to pass himself off as a Bosnian Muslim.

Refsdal portrays the Taliban as a bunch of dudes goofily hanging out: combing their long dyed hair; joking with one another; praying a ton; and repeatedly firing on U.S. convoys from high in the mountains. (“Use the rocket launcher, Rafiq, the rocket launcher.”) Dawran is a doting father of young kids who tells the reporter stories about how he came thisclose to killing a “traitor” but then took mercy on him. His men gawk at how scared Refsdal appears and can’t seem to load their ammunition properly. “These guys sound and act a lot like a U.S. small unit, but replace all the quotes from ‘Anchorman’ and ‘Talladega Nights’ with ‘Allahu Akbar,’” observes Andrew Exum of the Center for a New American Security.

Americans still wary of Obama’s support of Islam and NYC Mosque-Obama Watch

Obama, Islam, Mosque, Muslim, religion, NYC, Obama Watch

From: http://davegj13.wordpress.com

A recent poll conducted by  Pew Research Center and its affiliate Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that 18% of Americans now believe that the president is a Muslim, up 7% from last year. The flack has gotten so bad that The White House Bill Burton even felt the need to issue a statement saying, “(Americans) are not reading a lot of news about what religion the president is. The president is obviously a Christian. He prays everyday.”

While the mainstream media continues to defend the president, concern among the average American grows – mostly driven by the president’s own behavior.

For two years in a row President Obama has been a no show on the National Day of Prayer, but has yet to miss hosting a Ramadan festival at the White House since becoming president.

The list of overtures that Obama has made to the Muslim world has caused many to wonder why he feels the need to try so hard to listen to Muslims and win them over while virtually ignoring the voice of Americans who do not agree with his policies.

While still a candidate for president, Obama was quoted as saying: “I think that the [political] right might worry a bit more about the dangers of sectarianism. Whatever we once were, we’re no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”

Special Election candidates say they will end lame duck agenda-Political News

lame-duck agenda, special elections, republicans, taxes, obama watch

From: http://pajamasmedia.com

Last week I wrote about the first of three key strategies to neutralize the lame-duck threat: persuading moderate Republicans.  That strategy, however, may not be enough to stop all of the lame-duck threats, especially on taxes and spending (Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, for instance, seems eager to vote for tax hikes recommended by Obama’s deficit commission). The numbers of U.S. senators inclined to oppose Harry Reid’s runaway lame-duck agenda, however, can be increased on Election Day and that’s where the second key strategy comes in: educating voters in the key special election states whose new senators will be seated for the lame-duck session.

There are three states holding special elections whose winners will be seated as soon as they are certified: Delaware, Illinois, and West Virginia.

Here’s where each state stands.

Delaware is holding a special election for the unexpired four years of Vice President Joe Biden’s term, and insurgent tea party candidate Christine O’Donnell has made a promise to stop the lame duck-agenda a centerpiece of her primary campaign against moderate Republican Mike Castle. O’Donnell has been vocal in her opposition to policies like cap and trade, card check, and tax hikes which are on the lame-duck agenda. She has made a clear public commitment to oppose any major policy changes in a lame-duck session.

Castle recently matched her promise to stop the lame-duck agenda. I asked his staff for a statement from Castle on the lame-duck session and they provided this very strong statement from the congressman: “The only business that should be conducted during a lame-duck session of Congress is keeping the government running until the newly elected legislators are sworn in. I do not agree with those who say this period of time should be used for passing controversial legislation and would not play a role in helping to circumvent the will of American voters.”

David Cameron nearly assasinated by Taliban-World News

From: http://www.dailymail.co.uk

David Cameron came close to being assassinated at the hands of the Taliban on his last trip to Afghanistan, it emerged yesterday.

Military sources revealed that insurgents armed with shoulder launched rockets knew which helicopter to target when the Prime Minister visited a base in Helmand province.

Intercepted communications by the militants referred to the desire to shoot down the Chinook carrying the ‘Big Commander’.

The trip was aborted after Nato spies overheard a Taliban unit near the base talking about shooting down the helicopter, with a second call shortly afterwards that referred to a VIP in the area.

Now an urgent review has been launched into the Prime Minister’s security on visits to war zones.

Netflix Inc., the online movie- rental service, introduced an application on Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPod Touch for subscribers to watch streaming movies and television shows.

The application is free to download from iTunes and requires a subscription to Netflix, whose plans with streaming and mail-order rentals start at $8.99 a month, the Los Gatos, California-based company said today in a statement.

Netflix is expanding its online and mobile business to compete with Coinstar Inc.’s Redbox movie-rental vending machines, pay-per-view on cable and Hulu LLC’s online TV streaming. Netflix is spending money on exclusive content for its “Watch Instantly” service, recently adding films from pay- TV channel Epix, movies owned by Relativity Media LLC and TV shows such as “Nip/Tuck” from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Netflix already delivers content through the Web to game consoles, Blu-ray players, TV sets, PCs and Apple’s iPad. About 61 percent of Netflix’s 15 million subscribers use the online service, the company said last month.

Gmail bug turns users into spammers-tech news-web news

From: http://mashable.com

This week, a Gmail bug caused duplicate messages to be sent from some user accounts. In certain cases, the same messages were sent over and over for several days, which, as you can imagine, must have been extremely annoying to the recipients.

The bug did not affect many users (less than 2.5% of Gmail’s userbase, claims Google) but given the overall number of Gmail users — more than 176 million by now, according to comScore’s data — it’s a significant number.

Some users were extremely unhappy about this bug, which made them look bad in front of their business partners. “My company is on Google Apps and we are having this issue big time, it is about to start costing us business… We can’t afford to have our staff communicating with our clients in this manner. Google Apps has been nothing but a disaster for us. I look forward to a resolution of this latest in a long line of issues,” one message on the forum thread said.

Scott and Sink neck to neck in FL Governor Race-Political News

From: http://www.rasmussenreports.com

The first Rasmussen Reports post-primary survey of the Florida governor’s race finds Republican Rick Scott and Democrat Alex Sink in a close contest.

Scott, the winner of Tuesday’s bruising GOP Primary, earns the support of 41% of Likely Voters in the state, while Sink picks up 36% of the vote. Independent Bud Chiles runs a distant third with eight percent (8%). Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.

Earlier this month, prior to the primary, Scott posted a 35% to 31% lead over Sink, the state’s chief financial officer who faced only token opposition in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary. Chiles, who has worked in the non-profit sector and is the son of a former Democratic governor, picked up 16% support at that time.

The Florida race is rated a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Statement from Vermont Agriculture Secretary Allbee Regarding Visa Process for Seasonal Workers

From: http://www.vermont.gov

Montpelier, Vt – “I want to thank Senator Leahy and his staff for taking immediate action to address a critical issue that might have been a detrimental situation for our apple growers who rely on seasonal workers through the H-2A guest worker program.”

“Through Leahy’s efforts – including a personal call to USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas – USCIS now is expediting the process for all apple growers with pending H-2A petitions for workers from Jamaica to have their visa applications settled. Leahy’s staff is also helping to expedite submissions to USCIS for agency review of growers’ forms.”

“The apple industry is extremely important to Vermont and New England’s economy as well as our open, working landscape. This year the harvest is early and as Senator Leahy commented “crops don’t wait for paperwork.” Our growers rely on this labor force and without the efforts of Senator Leahy, our apple crops may not have been harvested this year.”

The apple industry in Vermont contributes close to $20 million to the state’s economy and is an important part of our rural communities, tourism, and open landscape.

By and large, results from Tuesday’s primaries in Alaska, Arizona and Florida have pundits and activists scratching their heads, the “establishment” leaders and incumbents in both political parties quivering in their boots – and Americans energized after flexing their collective “voting” muscle.

New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin summed it up well:

“(T)he conviction that government no longer works for the majority of Americans is spreading like wildfire. That nearly all of President Obama’s major policies have gone against public will is fueling voter anger across the nation.”

2 more egg brands have been recalled-Green News

Green News, eggs, Salmonella, Wright County Egg, Cardenas Market

From: http://www.cnn.com

Egg eaters have two new brand names to search for in their refrigerators Thursday because of the nationwide salmonella scare sparked by egg recalls.

Wright County Egg, the company responsible for 380 million of the 550 million recalled eggs, said in a press release Wednesday night that it had confirmed cases of Salmonella enteritidis illnesses related to shell eggs bearing the Cardenas Market brand and Cardenas Market was beginning a voluntary recall.

The statement said affected eggs were distributed to Cardenas Market stores in California and Nevada, packaged in 60-egg cases over-wrapped with plastic. Although the Cardenas Market label wasn’t named in Wright County’s original August 13 recall announcement, Cardenas was immediately notified at the time of the original recall, and product in distribution or in stores has been quarantined, returned or destroyed, Wright County said.

Eggs included in the recall are labeled with plant number 1026 and Julian dates ranging from 136 to 228.

Dates and codes can be found printed on the label. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1026 228.

n addition, Trafficanda Egg Ranch released a statement saying it had confirmed  Salmonella enteritidis illnesses from May 17, 2010, to August 17, 2010, relating to its Wright County-supplied shell eggs.

Muslim Terror Suspects arrested in Canada-World News

The RCMP dismantled an alleged Ottawa terrorist cell with suspected links to al-Qaeda Wednesday morning, making two arrests and saying more are expected.

The men are suspected of preparing a terrorist attack targeting Canada. The ringleader allegedly attended training camps in the Pakistan and Afghanistan region.

But the bomb plot was described as not well-defined and the arrests were apparently made on Wednesday because one of the suspects was preparing to travel abroad.

The suspects have not been named publicly.

“These guys were doing more than just talking about terrorism. They were planning it,” a police source said.

A news conference has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon. The RCMP, Ottawa Police Service and Canadian Security Intelligence Service were involved in the operation dubbed Project Samosa.

From: http://www.reuters.com

In unusual public remarks about Iran’s disputed nuclear programme Olli Heinonen, the former chief of U.N. nuclear inspections worldwide, told Le Monde newspaper that Iran’s uranium reserve still represented a “threat.”

Until he stepped down earlier this month for personal reasons, Heinonen was deputy director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and head of its nuclear safeguards department, which verifies that countries’ nuclear programmes are not being diverted for military use.

A no-nonsense Finn, he was one of the U.N. agency’s leading experts on Iran, which denies Western suspicions that its nuclear programme is aimed at making bombs despite intelligence indications to the contrary, which he investigated for years.

In the interview published on Thursday, Heinonen said the Islamic Republic now possessed three tonnes of low-enriched uranium, material which can be used to fuel nuclear power plants, or form the core of a bomb if refined much further.

“In theory, it is enough to make one or two nuclear arms. But to reach the final step, when one only has just enough material for two weapons, does not make sense,” Heinonen said in the interview carried out just before he left office.

The tie is broken for now, with Republican Meg Whitman, coming off last weekend’s state GOP Convention, moving out to her best showing yet in the race to be the next governor of California.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in California finds Whitman earning 48% support, while Democrat Jerry Brown picks up 40% of the vote. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

These new numbers move California from a Toss-Up to Leans GOP in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.
