Gene editing technology has advanced to such a level that the ability to engineer genes in human embryos to produce “better” results might soon be available. However, the technology is very expensive and promises to be for a long time to come. It is a service that will only be available to the most wealthy.
A new poll conducted in part by bioethics professor Michelle N. Meyer of Geisinger Health Systems reveals 28 percent of Americans would choose to alter their child’s DNA if they thought it was safe and it improved their child the way they wanted it to. 38 percent said they would get a genetic test of their embryos.
The report might theoretically tell you everything about your child from sexual preference to IQ to potential interests and even personality types. Embryos could be forced to genetically audition for life by having their DNA submitted for approval to a Mother who lives in a society that not only allows the murdering of unborn children, for any reason, but ostracizes those who oppose the murderous practice.
Without abortion being legal, the eugenics nightmare about to unfold would not happen, and genetic testing could be used to pre-emptively treat potentially looming issues. With the spirit of abortion, where human life is reduced to soulless matter, gene editing hardly seems unethical, but when flesh has soul, the heart dares not alter that soul’s DNA and customize humans to fit your desires.
