America is an Evolution Nation

For the first time in history, the American people are now Evolutionists, at least the majority of us are.  More than half of Americans now believe evolution is a thing while almost half still believe evolution is not a thing.

That transition happened in 2016, and the gap is now only growing.

Novel Surface Properties Possible with new Light-Power Nanprinting

A promising new method of nanopronting that uses light might enable scientists to create new meta surfaces with novel properties yet to be discovered.

New light-controlled nanoprinting for new meta-surfaces • College of Engineering News • Iowa State University

Jaeyoun Kim, professor of electrical and computer engineering, and In-Ho Cho, associate professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering, have received a new $525,000 award from the National Science Foundation to develop single-step, rapidly reconfigurable grayscale nanoprinting by light-controlled nanocapillary effect.

Kim and Cho’s research explores using light to control certain polymers’ height of capillary rise, and, in turn, enabling ultrahigh-resolution grayscale nanoprinting.

The collected data will also allow them to train machine-learning models to seek the optimal design of meta-surfaces and their manufacturing. Meta-surfaces are arrays of individual nanoscale elements. Meta-surfaces can be used for novel applications like generating color without using dyes, killing germs without harmful chemicals, and creating a hydrophobic shield for solar panels and window panes.

Kim and Cho will integrate nanomanufacturing technology, data science and…

24 de agosto de 2021, 16:43Baghdad, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The insurgent Qasim al-Jabarin group claimed on Tuesday seven attacks against seven US military caravans in Iraq, according to the Saberin news website.

Two of the actions took place in the Al-Diwaniyah province, two others in Babylon, another in the capital district of Yusufiyah, while the rest occurred in the provinces of Al Muhatna and Dhi Qar.

Recently, the harassment of US interests in that country escalated with bombs set off as vehicles passed by, loaded with military logistics.

Those caravans enter Iraq from the Syrian border in the west or through Kuwait in the south.

Iraqi irregular groups consider the US troops as occupiers who frequently violate sovereignty and disrespect local laws.

The rejection of Americans increased in tone after the assassination by US aircraft of the Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and the Deputy Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes.

Supercomputers to Get Even Faster with Optical Tech Transmissions

Optical Technology sends information from one point to another with no need for physical networks to accomplish this task.  This aspect of optical transmission could be key in freeing up supercompter processing power to make these already fast computers even faster.

New energy-saving technology can boost the performance of supercomputers

Optical technology can potentially speed up the processing speed that data centers need for efficient communication and analysis operations. Scientists are interested in optical-based information processing for performing the high-speed calculations necessary in machine learning tasks.

The core advantage of optical technology is that it transmits information without any physical interference from cables.

In today’s date, AI programs are being used for many tasks. These programs often require accelerators to carry out rapid calculations using minimal power. For now, while optical technology could theoretically meet that need, it has not yet reached the applied stage – despite a half-century of research. That’s because optical computing and decision-making do not yet save either time or energy.

Designing optical computing devices remains a challenge. Although the computations are performed rapidly, the obstacle comes in transferring the results to memory at that same…

France to Beat the US Out of Afghanistan

As the US prepares to leave by the Taliban-set deadline of August 31st, France might be leaving even sooner, with operations expected to end within the next few hours.

France expects to end Afghanistan evacuations in coming hours or days- minister

PARIS — France will push on with evacuation operations from Afghanistan as long as possible but will likely end these operations in the coming hours or days ahead of an Aug. 31 deadline, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Wednesday.

Western nations rushed to complete the evacuation of thousands of people from Afghanistan on Wednesday as the Aug. 31 deadline for the withdrawal of foreign troops drew closer with no sign that the country’s new Taliban rulers might allow an extension.

Talks between leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized nations on Tuesday resulted in no extension of the Aug. 31 deadline for evacuations.

Attal added he could not currently give a precise deadline as to when France’s Afghanistan evacuations would end. (Reporting by Dominique Vidalon; Editing by Sudip Kar-Gupta)

Citing images shared on the internet, several media outlets have reported that the Ethiopian National Defence Force is using Iranian-made Mohajer-6 combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as it fights a civil war.

Who took the photos remains unknown. However, they show the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visiting an airport with what appears to be the drone in the background. The fact-checking website Bellingcat and some open-source researchers independently geo-located the images, indicating that they were taken at the government-controlled Semara Airport.

Semara is the capital city of the country’s Afar province, which abuts the Tigray region where government forces are battling the anti-government Tigray Defense Forces (TDF).

Before his meeting with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett at the Pentagon, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stresses that Iran must be held to account for its regional activities, including attacks at sea.

“Iran must be held accountable for acts of aggression in the Middle East and on international waters,” he says, pointing the finger squarely at Tehran for the July 30 attack on the Mercer Street tanker in the Gulf of Oman.

He underscores America’s commitment to Israel’s ability to defend itself against Iran and, notably, its armed proxy groups.

“The Department of Defense is also committed to maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge, and to ensure that Israel can defend itself against threats from Iran, its proxies, and terrorist groups,” Austin says.

Austin notes Iran’s “alarming nuclear steps and continuing regional aggression.”

He adds that the “US is committed to strengthening its strategic relationship with Israel. The…

Speaking at a television news debate, PTI leader Neelam Irshad Sheikh said, “Taliban have said that they are with us and they will help us in [liberating] Kashmir.”

The clip of the video that was retweeted by Pakistani journalist and former ambassador to US, Hussain Haqqani, has surfaced online and was recirculated by news agency ANI.

In the video, the news anchor repeatedly asks Sheikh about the source of her information, even wondering at one point if she read about such a declaration by the Taliban on WhatsApp.

“Madam, do you realise what you have said. You have no idea what you just said. This show will air around the world; it will be viewed in India as well,” the news anchor asks the PTI leader.

However, Sheikh emphasises on her statement that Pakistan has the strength of its Army as well as the leadership of…
