Researcher Louise Drighe conducted a survey of 300 American adults to determine which individuals in the sample group were higher functioning cognitively than the others. Then, the researchers conducted a survey asking them basic questions about free speech versus hate speech. They found a “moderate” correlation between high functioning cognitive ability and support of free speech, as well as between low functioning cognitive ability and support for hate speech laws.
