MEXICO CITY, Aug 26 (Reuters) – The United States has urged Mexico to clear ad-hoc camps housing thousands of migrants in border cities due to concerns they pose a security risk and attract criminal gangs, officials familiar with the matter said.

Facing domestic criticism over a jump in illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has pressed Mexico to curb the flow of migrants to help ease pressure on the nearly 2,000 mile (3,200 km) frontier.

Two of the biggest camps to have sprung up in northern Mexico are in the city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas, and in Tijuana,…

The U.S. military says the Islamic State’s affiliate in Afghanistan was behind the deadly suicide bombing attacks in Kabul on Thursday that killed numerous U.S. service members, which won’t surprise Western intelligence officials or the ruling Taliban.

CENTCOM Commander, General Kenneth McKenzie said Thursday afternoon that 12 U.S. service members were killed and 15 more were injured, noting the suicide bombers are “assessed to have been ISIS fighters.” The general said he believed the suicide bomber made it through Taliban lines and was at a U.S.-controlled “interface point” when he detonated himself.

“We believe it is their desire to continue those attacks, and we expect those attacks to continue,” McKenzie warned. “If we can find out who is associated with this, we will go after them.”

He said the United States believed ISIS would like to conduct more walk-in suicide attacks, as well as suicide car bombs or rocket…

Switching Sodium Chloride to Choride Multiples Battery Storage by Six

Researchers make rechargeable batteries that store six times more charge – Techexplore.com

An international team of researchers led by Stanford University have developed rechargeable batteries that can store up to six times more charge than ones that are currently commercially available.

The advance, detailed in a new paper published Aug. 25 in the journal Nature, could accelerate the use of rechargeable batteries and puts  researchers one step closer toward achieving two top stated goals of their field: creating a high-performance rechargeable battery that could enable cellphones to be charged only once a week instead of daily and  that can travel six times farther without a recharge.

The new so-called alkali metal-chlorine batteries, developed by a team of researchers led by Stanford chemistry Professor Hongjie Dai and doctoral candidate Guanzhou Zhu, relies on the back-and-forth chemical conversion of sodium chloride (Na/Cl2) or  (Li/Cl2) to chlorine.

By The Irrawaddy 26 August 2021

Myanmar’s bilateral relations with Russia have reached a new level since the February coup, said the regime’s spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun.

“The two countries maintained good relations under the National League for Democracy government but relations with Russia are deeper now. Russia plays the central part in Myanmar’s air defense systems, followed by China. And the cooperation between the air forces is expanding,” said the spokesman.

Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun praised Russia for its advanced weapons technology. The junta wants a world-class Russian air defense system, he added.

A military delegation from Myanmar, led by General Maung Maung Aye, chief of the general staff, was in Moscow to attend the International Military Technical Forum “Army 2021” and participate in the…

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Saturday, Lubbock voted in favor of adopting an ordinance that would outlaw abortion within city limits and declare the town a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn.”

The ordinance makes Lubbock the largest city to outlaw abortion in the country. Including Lubbock, 24 cities in Texas and two cities in Nebraska passed similar ordinances, according to pro-life activist and Right to Life East Texas Director Mark Lee Dickson. Before Lubbock, the largest city to pass a similar ordinance was Big Spring with an estimated population of 28,187 people.

However, Lubbock is the only town with an active abortion clinic to pass the ordinance. Planned Parenthood opened a clinic in the city in October 2020 and began offering abortions April 15.

According to final unofficial election results, 62% percent voted for the ordinance and 37% percent voted against it.

The ordinance declares abortion in city limits “at all times and at all stages of pregnancy” an…

Top California Dem Endorses Elder Because He Wants To Reopen Schools

Former Democratic leader on the California State Senate Gloria Romero endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder this week because of his position on education.

“I chose Larry Elder I think largely because of his understanding of education, the experience that he’s lived, being an African American youth, man, and I went with him,” Romero told The Federalist in an interview on Thursday. “He has spoken eloquently on the failure of the education system and why school choice is so important, especially for communities of color.”

Romero’s endorsement is just one of the newest developments in the Golden State’s close upcoming recall election that will determine the fate of Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom. There are a lot of reasons why Newsom could be recalled, including his tyrannical COVID-19 rules, his failure to address the state’s energy crisis, and his hierarchical hypocrisy through it all, but Romero said his flippant attitude towards schools is the…

Judge Sanctions Trump Allies And Orders Legal Education For Failed Election Lawsuit

Nine attorneys aligned with former President Donald Trump who filed an unsuccessful lawsuit challenging Michigan’s 2020 presidential election results will have to pay financial penalties and face other punitive actions for their legal effort, a district court judge ruled on Wednesday.

“This lawsuit represents a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process,” U.S. District Judge Linda Parker wrote in her scathing decision on the case.

“It is one thing to take on the charge of vindicating rights associated with an
allegedly fraudulent election,” she wrote. “It is another to take on the charge of deceiving a federal court and the American people into believing that rights were infringed, without regard to whether any laws or rights were in fact violated. This is what happened here.”

The ruling stems from a lawsuit brought by the attorneys — including Trump backers Sidney Powell and Lin Wood — which sought to decertify…

Microbiomes Might Create More Genetic Possibilities for Organisms

The microbiome extends host evolutionary potential

From www.nature.com

Excerpt:

  • Dawkins’ “Extended Phenotype” recognized how organisms modify surrounding environments and ecological communities11,12. Through environmental modification, an organism’s phenotypic effects are extended beyond its own genome, suggesting evolution is influenced through interacting ecological communities. This theory, developed for free-living ecosystems, also applies to host-microbiome interactions12,13. The microbiome, with its consortium of genomes, extends the genetic repertoire of the host to form what some are now calling the “Extended Genotype” because the host integrates the extended effects of the microbiome into its phenotype3,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22. This extended genetic repertoire may shape the distribution of host phenotypes within a population, and consequently, shape the evolutionary potential of the host.

No, the Scale Model of Blue Origin’s Rocket Is Not an Operable Dildo

Model rocket maker Estes has released a 1/66 scale model of Blue Origin’s dick-shaped New Shepard rocket — and we are here to warn you that whatever it looks like, it is not an operable sex toy.

No, folks, this plastic object that bears a striking resemblance to a penis is not meant to pleasure oneself.

That’s in spite of its sticker price of $69.99, which admittedly sounds like a crude joke. But just to reiterate, as far as we can tell, it’s serious. It just happens to be based on a rocket that, to the bemusement of experts, looks a lot like a dong.

To be fair, as far as model rockets go, it’s kinda awesome. The model can be launched 400 feet into the air — if you’re willing to shell out extra for the launch pad, an electronic launch controller, engines, and some wadding for recovery, which all works out to a total of $109.99.
