MIT Programmed AI Machines Outperform Humans in Teamplay Contest

Artificial Intelligence is capable of doing more in cooperation with other Artificial intelligence than humans are, to the surprise of no one that understands human nature.  MIT wanted to make sure they got that obvious fact documented, so they had human Hanabi players battle with AI players, and, yep, the AI players were better teammates than the human ones were, but the humans left the game as individuals and the AI AI players left the game with no sentience whatsoever.

The Google Wants Drugs

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is setting up a new DeepMind to try and find new and awesome wonder drugs the mega-corpo can use to expand its market share to include the drugs you buy at the pharmacy.

Remember, folks, Google is the same company adopting draconian police-state censporship of any voice that counters the preferred narratives of the Democrat Party and the Corporate Woketarian Moral code.  Why would we trust a company such as this to be the maker of our drugs, let alone the holder of patents on drugs that might be life-saving for some?

What if Alphabet cancels you from drugs for dead-naming a transgendered woman on Twitter 8 years ago?  Think it can’t happen?  Think again.  #Cancelalphabetpx

Alphabet Chases Wonder Drugs With DeepMind AI Spinoff Isomorphic Labs

AI research wunderkind, DeepMind, has long been all fun and games.

The London-based organization, owned by Google parent company Alphabet, has used deep learning to train algorithms that can take down world champions at the ancient game of Go and top players of the popular strategy video game Starcraft.

Then last year, things got serious when DeepMind trounced the competition at a protein folding contest. Predicting the structure of proteins, the complex molecules underpinning all biology, is notoriously difficult. But DeepMind’s AlphaFold2 made a quantum leap in capability, producing results that matched experimental data down to a resolution of a few atoms.

In July, the company published a paper describing AlphaFold2, open-sourced the code, and dropped a library of 350,000 protein structures with a promise to add 100 million more.

This week, Alphabet announced it will build on DeepMind’s AlphaFold2 breakthrough by creating a new company, Isomorphic Labs, in an effort to apply AI to drug discovery.

“We are at an exciting moment in history now where these techniques and methods are becoming powerful and sophisticated enough to be applied to real-world problems including scientific discovery itself,” wrote Demis Hassabis, DeepMind founder and CEO, in a post announcing the company. “Now the time is right to push this forward at pace, and with the dedicated focus and resources that Isomorphic Labs will bring.”

Hassabis is Isomorphic’s founder and will serve as its CEO while the fledgling company gets its feet, setting the agenda and culture, building a team, and connecting the effort to DeepMind. The two companies will collaborate, but be largely independent.

“You can think of [Isomorphic] as a sort of sister company to DeepMind,” Hassabis told Stat. “The idea is to really forge ahead with the potential for computational AI methods to reimagine the whole drug discovery process.”

While AlphaFold2’s success sparked the effort,…

Meet the Eco-Right, Ready to Save the Planet AND the Individual

From Freedomist.com

The issue of global warming as a man-made or nature made phenomena, or even the issue of whether global warming is happening at all, is not necessarily so clearly a left-right issue.  At some point, even amidst the dross of bad biased studies and reporting, the truth will out in the scientific community, so much so that people with conservative values are tackling with the problem of global warming as a manmade event as an opportunity to demonstrate the advantages of developing solutions rooted in individual and local rights versus the top-down ideological ‘solutions’ that are currently being offered by the left.

But it’s not just global warming, it’s the notion of being in harmony with the environment, of taking care of the land we live in, of building in sustainable ways with our local environmental reality, that all of these ideas or suppositions are actually better reflected and achieved through conservative, not progressive values.

A whole new movement has emerged that struggles for a label, but, for now, is called simly the eco-right.

From Capitalresearch.org

Rise of the Eco-Right

This is the plight of the “eco-Right,” our name for the few dozen lobbying, litigation, and activist nonprofits that identify themselves as free market or broadly right-of-center and yet are attempting to rebrand environmentalism and global warming ideology as conservative values. In the process, they are threatening to undermine both affordable energy in America and the future of the conservative movement.

The Capital Research Center broke the news on the liberal mega-donors secretly bankrolling leading members of the eco-Right as well as the carbon taxes and other burdensome regulations they propose. In this report, we’ve compiled years of research and reporting to reveal the funders, leadership, and lobbying of the eco-Right, exposing a web of overlapping boards and shared donors—all in service to a destructive and misleading agenda.

Our aim is to equip the reader with the basic tools to understand these groups and their goals so that no one is fooled into believing that consensus-driven science and alarmism are conservative values, however they’re presented.

Amazon’s vision for the future of home security includes drones flying over your roof, outdoor cameras that monitor for possible trespassers and cute robots patrolling indoors.During an invite-only press conference on Tuesday, the company showed off an autonomous, 20-pound dog-like robot named Astro with large, cartoon-y eyes on its tablet face and a cup holder. The robot — not unlike an Alexa on wheels — uses voice-recognition software, cameras, artificial intelligence, mapping technology and voice — and face —recognition sensors as it zooms from room to room, capturing live video and learning your habits.Amazon also announced a subscription service called Virtual Security Guard for Ring cameras. Ring, the smart doorbell and camera company it acquired in 2018 for $1 billion, will work with third-party professional monitoring companies, such as Rapid Response, to analyze a live feed from its outdoor cameras. The agents can use the camera’s two-way talk functionality…

Farms that Scrape the Sky

A project is going on in China that no doubt was confirmed by and intended to serve the state, is also a proof of concept that could ultimately benefit the very people states such as China intend to control.

The project is what’s being billed as a farmscaper and is being designed to be centrally controlled, but the concept of building hydropponic, aquaponic, and other types of non-soil-dependent forms of farming on towers is not new.  As a matter of fact, I refer to this cocept as the farm tower.  The possibilitiy, for instance, with utilizing farm towers to grow your own chemicals and even  your own fundamental building materials right next to the processing and manufacturing centers that need them is a game-changer in creating local sustainability and thriving.

Imagine a hospital with farm towners around it that grow plants which can create wide ranges of currently scarce and expensive-to-produce medicines.  Imagine a manufacturoing hub that has farm towers beside it which grow the bulk of their raw material needs.  These worlds are possible so long as we can create localized versions of what the centralized powers would seek to preserve at the international scale.

These Farms Are Reaching For The Sky Bringing Agriculture Into Cities

Most people prefer to spend their time surrounded by nature, and it is good for your health after all. That’s why we see more and more buildings covered in greenery. Foster + Partners’ Marina Tower and Guangming Hub are among them. The tower is Greece’s first green high-rise building and its tallest, reaching 200 meters (656 ft) in height. The hub will include greenery-filled towers, autonomous vehicle technologies, and even virtual reality (VR).

Indeed, the greenery brings nature into cities while offering insulation and shade to the buildings, reducing air-conditioning requirements – but what if they could also provide food? That is precisely what Italy’s Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) has in mind for the “Farmscraper,” which the firm claims could feed up to 40,000 people annually.

The Farmscraper, officially called Jian Mu Tower, would rise to 715 ft (218 m) in Shenzhen, China.

Pasadena GunFire Detection Monitor Plan Paused by Race Impact Report

Plans for the city of Pasadena to deploy gunfire detection monitors across the city were paused for one week when the city council paused the contract with contractor ShotSpotter.  The plan to deploy was puased on the heels of a report that suggest ‘brown and black’ communities would be disproportionately affected, with police presence only increasing in these communities that are still calling for less of a police footprint, not more.

The City Council on Monday announced that a proposed contract for technology that uses microphones and sensors to determine the location of gunshots and quickly alerts police will be held for one week.

According to Mayor Victor Gordo, city staff will bring to the council more information on Shotspotter, a system that records loud, impulsive sounds and alerts police in 60 seconds or less about the location of the gunshot. Advocates believe the system could save lives, deter shootings, and prevent the need to investigate non-gunfire-related incidents, such as fireworks…..

Pasadena police Lt. Bill Grisafe said that after analyzing police data, ShotSpotter proposed to cover about a three-square-mile area of Pasadena that is most impacted by gun-related violence.

There was no mention of the specific area being considered.

According to a report to the council’s Public Safety Committee, which passed the matter last week, the Pasadena police intend to deploy ShotSpotter sensors in areas its own analysis shows are “most impacted by gun-related crimes.”

The ACLU claims that reasoning will increase the police footprint in Black and brown communities.

Facebook Hope for Kid-Targeted Instagram Halted

After a report claimed that Facebook’s Instagram was having a deleterious effect on the psyche of teens, preying on their anger, and their sense of body worth thanks to the rise of instagrammodels, the mega corp is halting its development of Instagram for Kids until such time as the eyes of the world are no longer on them.  Perhaps Facebook could claim any article or video that suggests this report is valid could be termed “misinformation,” and thus give Facebook full leeway to assure the bad report doesn’t get shared.

Well, maybe not just yet, but, it’s coming.  When the mob goes on to the next outrage, Facebook will quietly resume its efforts to commodify the minds of children around the world.  Cool.  Everyone buckle up, the next few years are gonna be even MORE FUN than the last few.

Jeff Bezos has called Blue Origin his life’s most important work – and the hours he is devoting to the space company are growing accordingly.

Historically, Bezos had dedicated Wednesday afternoons to either updates and discussions at Blue Origin, people familiar with the situation told CNBC – meetings which were in person before the Covid pandemic, and have been by phone since. However, within the past month he added Tuesday afternoons as well, those people said.

While Bezos’ increased engagement with the company has been previously reported, just how much he’s involved with Blue Origin has not. As one of the richest people in the world, and still involved at Amazon as the company’s executive chairman, demands on Bezos’ time are high, so spending twice as much time with his space company represents a significant added commitment.

Nano-Inks Could Write Your Next Smart Phone, Let’s Hope It’s Open-Sourced

A Tech Researcher named Parisa Pour Shahid Saeed Abadi has set the 3D Printing world on fire with a research paper that shows early development of 3D printing using polymer nanocomposites which can also serve as electric currents, opening up the door to potential near-future printing of whole electric devices which might someday include a smart phone.

We’re a long way from getting to that point, but this discovery could potentially be a significant step towards that reality.  Whatever methodologies these reseachers utilized, whatever resources they required, open source researchers are most likely, or should be, doing the same to assure the discoveries of today don’t become the shackles of tomorrow in the hands of the monopolistic few corporations that have the capacity, at this moment, to develop such tech that might be one day used in homes, most likely as a subscription service on machines that the resident user doesn’t actually own.

Imagine a world where a small nation can fend off the mightiest nation’s missiles and planes with wave upon wave of drones delivered through 3D Nano-Ink Printing.  Holding or taking land will require an army of 3D printers, so if you wish to remain free, you best hope 3D printers become an open source part of our life in the very near future.

….3D printing using plastic, metal or something else entirely isn’t new. What Tech researchers have done differently is use polymer nanocomposites (made of epoxy, carbon nanotubes and nano-clay) and a printing process that doesn’t sacrifice functionality. The junction of material type and morphology — size, shape, structure — in polymer nanocomposite inks is the ultimate in form meeting function.

The exploration of process, morphology and properties of polymeric inks is the subject of an article recently published in the journal Additive Manufacturing by Parisa Pour Shahid Saeed Abadi, an engineer who explores the interface of materials, mechanics and medicine, and graduate student Masoud Kasraie.

Abadi and Kasraie point out that before researchers can sprint off to the races using polymeric inks, they must first learn to walk. The first step is digging into the intersection of the macro scale (how our eyes see a material performing) and the nano scale (what we can’t see, but know is occurring).

……

The conductivity of Abadi and Kasraie’s nanomaterial ink is an exceptionally handy trait that gives the printed epoxy the potential to double as electrical wiring — whether in a circuit board, an airplane’s wing or in 3D-printed actuators for guiding catheters in blood vessels. Another useful trait of the nanocomposite polymer ink is its strength.

“In comparison with steel and aluminum, we see 80% weight reduction with epoxy composite with same strength,” Kasraie said.

Finally, in the medical field and aerospace and electronics industries, where defects and damage can spell big trouble, the nanocomposites serve a safety function.

Neural Networks Are Making You Who You Are, Here’s How to Fight it

The world around you is driven more and more by the spooky decisicions made by artificial neural networks executing various machine learning methods, including neural networks, networks of semi-independent ai programs solving particular problems and submitting data to a higher structure where the final decisions are made.

Neural networks, deep learning machines attempting to collectively mimic a human mind, or, rather, in scale, human minds, in the billions, at this point, are making more and more decisions that are becoming the very words an emotional expressions of human beings on network news networks and superhero movies.

Neural networks are honing their craft in parsing out bad data as efficienctly as possible, the words, ideas, people, that are not othodox according to the code  embedded into the horde of machines playing at being human at being God.

This is the sci-fi reality we now find ourselves immirsed in, this is why I chose to feature a market report that  projects continued major growth  in the sale  of neural networks to more and more nations, departments of nations, parties of nations, corporations, departments of corporations, helping to perfect the consumption of the desired diet and assuring no impurities pollute the pure meal promised by these same machines through the mouths of humans.

Neural networks are not a problem in and of themselves.  The exclusivitty of these tools to those who are already in significant power advantage is more troubling.  The creation of methods and machines that are controlled by strict Intellectual Property laws serves  to the advantage of those already advantages, but this need not be the case.

Even as I write, there are tech nerds in garages and greenhouses and basments and bedrooms doing their own work to develop their own open source neural network machines, which offer people from the city to the most remote region access to the best minds in the world for council in how to meet a need.  Neural networks that are not given authority to filter, but merely council, networks not focused on stopping thought but any number of potential non-coercive uses of such  powerful, cognitive-enhancing tool enabling a person with an IQ of 100 to be able to deal favorably with a person of an IQ of 140, with the help of their ai buddy, in whatever manifestation this network of thought is to take in the near future to come.

That future, my friends, can be choked in the monopolies of the now who have the resources to develop these tools before grass roots independents can build their own (and that time is soon upon us) and free their knowledge in the open source world so that others can build their own local centers of intellectual super power.

This is the hope of the Freedomist, that open-source, small scale solutions to technological need and want can at least compete with what the corporate monopolies are offering and are soon to offer as well.  Keep tech free, don’t bound Prometheus on the rock to have his liver torn out again.

From WGU.edu

In the simplest terms, an artificial neural network (ANN) is an example of machine learning that takes information, and helps the computer generate an output based on their knowledge and examples. Machines utilize neural networks and algorithms to help them adapt and learn without having to be reprogrammed. Neural networks are mimics of the human brain, where each neuron or node is responsible for solving a small part of the problem. They pass on what they know and have learned to the other neurons in the network, until the interconnected nodes are able to solve the problem and give an output. Trial and error are a huge part of neural networks and are key in helping the nodes learn. Neural networks are different from computational statistical models because they can learn from new information—computational machine learning is also designed to make accurate predictions, while statistical models are designed to learn about the relationship between variables.

In simple terms, neural networks are fairly easy to understand because they function like the human brain. There is an information input, the information flows between interconnected neurons or nodes inside the network through deep hidden layers and uses algorithms to learn about them, and then the solution is put in an output neuron layer, giving the final prediction or determination.
