The Justice Department on Monday recommended Steve Bannon, the right-wing radio host and ally of former President Donald Trump, be sentenced to six months in prison and fined $200,000 after he was convicted of contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.
Federal prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum filed in the U.S. district court in Washington that from the moment Bannon, 68, received the subpoena from the House panel in late September 2021, “he has pursued a bad-faith strategy of defiance and contempt” and still has not turned over any documents to investigators or appeared for testimony.
