BY JOEL M. SKOUSEN: EDITOR, WORLD AFFAIRS BRIEF
Frankly, there are no totally safe places anymore as even the Red state governors have gone along with this false pandemic. There are only safer places relative to really unsafe states. In choosing a place to move to, you can’t just look at the safer rural areas, even though these areas are essential to providing distance from the controlling bureaucrats and law enforcement that will “check your papers” and try to enforce evil emergency powers or confiscate you self-defense measures. Controllers will generally concentrate on cities before rural areas, which takes much more time and manpower.
1. Consider The Potential For Tyranny
You have to evaluate the potential for tyranny within the political climate of the state and local government where your property resides. This is always worse in states where all branches of government are controlled by Democrats.
Even though all conservative states have mainstream, compromising governors, they have to be wary of offending the conservative majorities. The safer states are those that have overwhelming conservative majorities that can’t be easily eroded by national trends and propaganda.
While a few Republican governors have started to fight back, which is good, don’t move to a state just because of one good governor at the present time. Many of those Republican governors are not reliable and will eventually betray you or be replaced.
The establishment media powers in every Republican state are dedicated to ousting the stronger conservative governors like Kristi Noem of South Dakota, and Ron DeSantis of Florida (Florida is a zero rated state for other reasons explained in the book).
Other Republican governors like Greg Abbott of Texas are having to turn more conservative lately as conservatives become more outraged, but you can’t trust them to stay the course in the long run.
“I (Don McAlvany) have known and been a close friend with Joel Skousen for over 40 years. Before that, I was mentored (from my early 20’s up) by his brilliant uncle, Cleon Skousen, who wrote the classic book, The Naked Communist, explaining the evil (now successful) strategy and tactics of the communists.”

2. Watch Out For High Population Density
Your most important relocation criteria has to be to get out of high density population areas. If you look at a night space satellite picture of the US, the areas east of the Mississippi are a blaze of lights, even in the rural areas.
West of the Mississippi, until you get to California, is relatively dark by comparison. Someday there will be huge refugee flows during war, from those high density areas to rural areas, and that is why the West is better than the East, generally.
That said, I can find relative safety (in the medium term) in rural areas even in the East as long as they’re some distance from the Boston-NY-DC corridor, but these areas run the risk of being eventually overrun by refugees in the long term when millions in the East are forced to flee from mega-cities that have no services or electricity. You’ll see that happen someday.

“Joel is a brilliant geopolitical expert who writes the very insightful World Affair Brief (available weekly online) and who is the country’s foremost expert on strategic relocation and survival architecture. I have personally seen and experienced Joel’s expertise while living in the mountains of Colorado a number of years ago.”

3. Consider Safety Vs. Services
Also, remember that absolute safety is inversely proportional to access to services. Thus, living tens of miles from nowhere out in the Nevada desert may be safe from social unrest, but that kind of remoteness has its own price.
You’ll spend huge amounts of time and money driving to get building materials, and you won’t be able to have access to professional help when you need it. And try selling your spouse or children on living full-time in such isolation.

4. State Ratings From Strategic Relocation
The map above displays our state-by-state rating based for strategic relocation based on 18 varying factors, including political demographics, military threats, crime, taxes, and gun laws. The book also provides strategies for getting out of populated areas during a crisis and finding a safe retreat area within a state. [ED. NOTE: To understand where a specific state stands on these factors, please see Joel’s excellent book, Strategic Relocation.]
“His insights on the great dangers Americans now face (politically and from potential war on US soil) are second to none. And his genius on how and where to survive in the chaos now heading for America, like an out of control freight train, are invaluable and could one day save your life or the lives of your family.”

5. Craft A Plan For Your Unique Circumstances
As you can see, relocation for security is an intensely personal decision depending on each family’s unique criteria, needs, financial situation, and capabilities. The more skills you have, the more you can handle remote and safe rural areas.
The more dependent you are on others for fixing things, building things, and growing food, the closer to civilization you’re going to have to be, and that comes with increased risk when society comes apart.
There are tradeoffs and compromises in everyone’s choice. That’s why I wrote the book – to give you the full range of understanding of the threats and possible choices available in each state.
There is not one or even two “safer places” for everyone.
Pick the compromise place that best suits your needs.
“I would strongly recommend that you avail yourself of Joel’s Strategic Relocation books, his writings on survival architecture, and his excellent weekly political/geopolitical/strategic analysis – World Affairs Brief.”
