Satellite images taken by Planet and analyzed by the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (CNS/MIIS) show that China is significantly expanding the number of silos for its arsenal of intercontinental range-ballistic missiles. 120 silos under construction near Yumen were identified by Decker Eveleth, a former nonproliferation fellow at CNS/MIIS and incoming student. Yuman silos started construction in early 2020.

A second Hami missile silo field was found. It is in a much earlier stage of development than the Yumen site. Construction began at the start of March 2021 in the southeastern corner of the complex and continues at a rapid pace. Since then, dome shelters have been erected over at least 14 silos and soil cleared in preparation for the construction of another 19 silos. The grid-like outline of the entire complex indicates that it may eventually include approximately 110 silos. The Hami site was…

After US Exit From Afghanistan, Video Of Taliban Flying US Chopper With Dangling Body

A body dangled from a US military chopper being flown by the Taliban, reportedly over Kandahar in Afghanistan, in a chilling video shared on Tuesday by several journalists and what the Taliban claims is their official handle.

The tweets surfaced hours after the US wrapped up a messy exit from Afghanistan around midnight, with the last of its troops flying out in military aircraft. NDTV cannot confirm the authenticity of this video.

The “Talib Times” – its Twitter bio calls it “the English language official account of Islamic Emirate Afghanistan” – claimed that the chopper was “patrolling the city”, without once mentioning the body hanging on a rope from the US Black Hawk.

“Our Air Force! At this time, the Islamic Emirate’s air force helicopters are flying over Kandahar city and patrolling the city,” said the tweet.

Rebels with a new cause: The challenges the Taliban face in governing Afghanistan

The Taliban finally have what they always wanted: Afghanistan all to themselves.

Two decades of butchery and warfare — almost three decades if you count their initial rise to power in the early 1990s — came to an ignominious end with the departure of the last U.S. troops and transport planes from Kabul on Monday.

Since the hardline Islamist movement is known to frown on dancing — when not outright banning it — you can probably expect little in the way of public celebration, at least nothing that western nations would recognize, or consider a party.

Whatever victory celebration the Taliban might have in mind, it will surely be tempered by the reality that they have inherited a country they helped to utterly ruin and are now overlords to a fractious, recalcitrant people who do not bow easily, even when bloodied.

Much has been written about the policy failures, the incoherence and the hubris of western nations, led by the United States, since the democratically-elected…

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Sacrifices Career to Send Afghan Indictment to Marine Brass

Marine Commander Relieved Of Duty For Demanding Accountability From Military Leadership

Marine commander Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller made the decision to post a video in which he, in uniform, demands military leadership accountability for the absolute disgrace, dishonor, and all-around cluster in Afghanistan.

With a shockingly sophomoric, greedy, gleaming and highly politicized eye on a glorious twentieth anniversary of 9/11 photo-op followed (they imagined) by slathering adulation from the legacy media, the bungling Biden administration, including its cowardly ‘woke’ military top brass, have made abysmal, catastrophic decisions that have (so far) cost the lives of 13 members of our military and at least 100 Afghans.

Colonel Scheller was justifiably furious about and grieving the completely foreseeable and entirely preventable deaths of a dozen of his Marine brothers and that of a Navy corpsman.

He notes that military leadership had an honor-bound duty to “throw their rank on the table” and defend America and our troops on the ground against bad…

Biden Admin Now Claims Americans in Afghanistan Will Be Evacuated

If the Biden Adminstration is being transparent, then Americans still stranded in Afghanistan might be relieved to hear the adminstration is claiming they now have the resources to remove all the remaining Americans.

While it is hoped by some, including especially those abandoned by the US, that maybe this is true, it hasn’t the ring of truth. The US has no leverage over the crazed terrorist Mullahs and no way to protect anything or anyone in country on the ground.

President Biden kept his promise to the terrorists, whom his policies armed, but he broke his promise to Americans and our Afghan partners when he said the US wouldn’t physically leave until they were all evacuated. Now the goal post moves and the situation becomes more dire.

U.S. has capacity to evacuate remaining Americans from Afghanistan, officials say

WASHINGTON — The United States has the capacity to evacuate the approximately 300 U.S. citizens remaining in Afghanistan who want to leave before President Joe Biden’s Tuesday deadline, senior Biden administration officials said Sunday, as another U.S. drone strike against suspected Islamic State militants underscored the grave threat in the war’s final days.

“This is the most dangerous time in an already extraordinarily dangerous mission these last couple of days,” America’s top diplomat, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, said not long before confirmation of that airstrike in Kabul, the capital.

The evacuation flow of Americans kept pace even as a new State Department security alert, issued hours before the military action, instructed people to leave the airport area immediately “due to a specific, credible threat.”

Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan said that for those U.S. citizens seeking immediately to…

BERLIN (AP) — The three candidates to succeed Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany’s election meet Sunday evening in a televised debate, with polls showing their parties close together and suggesting that many voters are unimpressed with the choices.

Sunday’s debate on RTL and n-tv private television is the first of three ahead of the parliamentary election on Sept. 26. The contenders are Armin Laschet for Merkel’s center-right Union bloc, Olaf Scholz for the center-left Social Democrats and Annalena Baerbock for the environmentalist Greens.

Laschet is the governor of Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia. Scholz is the vice chancellor and finance minister in Merkel’s outgoing coalition government. Baerbock, who lacks government experience, is making the Greens’ first run for the chancellery.

Recent polls show no party forecast to receive more than a quarter of the vote, a particularly disappointing situation for the Union after Merkel’s 16 years in government. The…

The Army Is Preparing to Reveal Its New Missile Defense System

Fighter-jet-mounted guns, air-dropped bombs, ship-launched interceptor missiles, and ground-fired air defenses can only be as effective as the accuracy and timeliness of their targeting intelligence, a simple, known reality becoming increasingly pressing and relevant as the Pentagon surges ahead with its multi-domain networking strategy.

As part of this networking strategy, the Army is accelerating development of its Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS). The system consists of a collection of radars, fire control systems, weapons, and targeting nodes connected to one another to seamlessly share time-sensitive data in real-time. IBCS, which recently shot down several cruise missile targets in a live-fire test, is slated to become operational next year.

If an F-35 fighter jet is in position to attack an enemy ship first located by ground-based radar or ship-integrated targeting sensors, then targeting details need to be identified and transmitted in…
