A raid in Bethlehem by Israeli soldiers has led to the near-abandonment of the Church of the Nativity leaving some to question whether the church will be able to receive Christmas visitors this upcoming holiday season. Reports on this incident are only coming from far-left news sources that have a vested interest in undermining Israel’s credibility at home, but yet the reports in and of themselves appear credible, even if the headlines themselves are sensational.
The Church of the Nativity also underwent what was called a siege back in May of 2022 during an operation by the IDF to arrest suspected Hamas terrorists, who had fled into the church, along with 200 monks.
Bethlehem, which is called an occupied city by far-left outlets, lies in the heart of what was once Judea, the kingdom that broke away from the rest of Israel after Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, listened to bad advice from his young advisors over the elders, leading to Jeroboam of Nebat being declared King of Israel, whose heart also lies in the same disputed region, the West Bank.
Many people believe, including this writer, that the gathering of the Jews before their final repentance will only be signaled once Jews control in totality the West Bank, as well as the East Bank, formerly Gilead, the first lands conquered by the exiled Jews under Moses before Joshua conquered the lands on the western-side of the Jordan river.
Calling Bethlehem an occupied city is to ignore the historic significance of the city to the Jews, for it was the birthplace of Joseph (then called Ephrathah), and it lay in the heart of the tribal land of Judah. Of course it is also even more significant to the Christians, for it is the birthplace of Christ our Savior, the son of the living God, who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The IDF, however, does not value the Church of the Nativity and, if anything, is inclined to see it as an affront to their Messiah-rejecting faiths.
The truth to the degree to which the IDF is willing to disrupt the sanctity of the Church of the Nativity is probably somewhere between the claims of leftists seeking to damage Israel’s support among American Christians and claims of the IDF, who recognize the bad PR it would be to openly violate the sanctity of this church, which alleges to be built on the spot where Christ was born.
