Serious errors committed by the Census Bureau may end up impacting the 2024 election, experts warn. A Census Bureau study published in late May shows that Republican-leaning states were under-counted by statistically significant margins, while Democrat-leaning states were over-counted by statistically significant margins. The census, mandated every 10 years, was conducted during the pandemic.
“The consequences of the Census Bureau’s errors will further erode the public’s trust in our electoral system. And if we thought 2000 or 2020 were contentious elections, just wait until a candidate realizes that he or she could have won the White House if the national headcount were done correctly,” Tate observed.
