William R Collier Jr

More and more thoughtful people are talking about the social/moral, sacred/spiritual, market/fiscal, and civic/political condition of our civilization and concluding that catastrophic failure and collapse are almost inevitable. In short, they are openly talking about the decline and fall of Western Civilization.

While the average person may not articulate these thoughts in such terms, almost everyone who holds to some form of virtue or godliness coupled with personal responsibility and faith-affirming as well as life-affirming lifestyle choices agrees that “things are moving towards the wrong direction.”

Our social, sacred, civic, and market life as a civilization is not merely falling, it is collapsing in on itself in a free-fall of doom that, to informed observers, is unprecedented in its speed. This translates to corrupting of our youth, higher prices for everything, higher taxes an regulatory burdens, corruption of high officials, and general dishonesty, unfaithfulness, and indecency all around us. The terrible results of this fall are daily confronting us and the agents of this decline have an “in your face” boldness and arrogance that frustrates and infuriates normal, decent people who know that such behaviors are bad for everyone.

If you are not accustomed to think in terms of the rise and fall of civilization and how these processes can effect your daily life, for good and for ill, I want to challenge you right now that knowing how these things work can help you to deal with what is happening in your life right now.

It is true that Western Civilization is not merely “in decline” but that it is quite literally coming apart. The final calamity of destruction may be drawn out in a slow-motion train wreck that takes decades.

Yes, Western Civilization is in decline and headed for collapse. That is true. But is it ALSO true that YOU in particular are compelled by forces beyond your control to partake of the awful results of that decline?

Barring a miracle we cannot predict with certainty, it is statistically improbable that Western Civilization will produce much more than negative results for all who follow and depend upon its social, sacred, civic, and market institutions for their daily necessities. Let that sink in- if you depend on the institutions of Western Civilization for your daily necessities, you cannot expect very positive results. This basic fact of life is never going to change unless an outright miracle occurs.

While it IS true that Western Civilization is in decline and that it will drag everyone who depends upon it down with it, it is NOT true that you and I have to depend on Western Civilization’s godless institutions to meet our daily needs. We are more free to choose what kind of institutions we will depend upon to meet our daily needs than many suspect.

If institutions are regular relationships and exchanges that we habitually and normal resort to then if we change the terms, norms, standards, and philosophical basis of our relationships and exchanges then we start a process of establishing our own institutions to meet our daily needs. IF these new institutions are not built on the present civilization’s norms and standards, because we reject those godless norms and standards, then even if Western Civilization collapses those institutions and those who depend on them will not be dragged down with Western Civilization.

Western Civilization is going to crumble, but you and I do not have to let that get in the way of building a positive and hopeful future. If we decide to deliberately create relationships and conduct exchanges based on the values and beliefs of a new, God-fearing civilization then we will watch the old civilization fall without having to partake in the catastrophe ourselves.

The OLD will die, that is the nature of things with people AND civilizations, but just as the OLD die, new generations are born and life, human civilization, goes on. For those who stick with the old out of loyalty, habit, or apathy, there will be catastrophe and sorrow. For those who consciously take a different path towards the new, there is hope that they and their offspring will avoid the sorrow and misery that their neighbors might be forced to endure.

The decline and fall of an old civilization is not the real news item here- the real news that we can put our hope in is that the emergence of the NEW will help people escape from the decline of the OLD.

Creating A New Civilization

William R Collier Jr.

Civilization is the highest form of human culture, including technology, styles, social norms, social conditions, and way of life as expressed in lifestyle, beliefs, art, social arrangements, laws, policies, and organizational/institutional structures and governance. A society that follows a culture whose norms inhibit technological advances or that are contrary to obersvable natural laws of cause and effect can hardly be called a civilization.

As more and more people consciously and unconsciously adopt a secular and hedonistic way of life, as permeates a Hollywood led popular culture, human civilization around the globe is in decline, losing its capacity for virtue and other moral and creative strengths and adopting practices and behaviors that are contra-indicated by observable laws of cause and effect.

In America and Western Europe, the process of losing our civilization to the vagaries of barbarism paraded as “Progressivism” is well under way. The wholesale and illogical rejection of virtue, morality, and faith go hand in hand with the deepening of a crisis of reason and identity which is making the very fabric of civil society come apart.

Our present culture cannot even muster up the fortitude to define the identity of the sexes, confusing the sexes and even the very nature of marriage itself.

Without the arts of virtue and reason to guide them, most unthinking individuals devolve into self-serving savages with no sense of any greater purpose but to fulfill their animal lust and no deeper thoughts than how to obtain the things needed to fulfill those lusts. Promise them joy without pain, benefits without cost, and pleasure without constraint and they will give up their intellectual and spiritual freedom with gladness.

This is the civilization we find ourselves in the midst of, a civilization that is losing its right to even be referred to as a civilization- a civilization fast turning into a savage and godless culture ruled from the top by cruel masters who thrive on lies, coercion, deceptions, manipulation, and exploitation.

While most people, most of the time, cannot see any possibilities outside of their own limited experiences and what the present popular culture says is possible, we are not slaves of the present civilization. We are not condemned by any logic, laws of cause and effect, or moral/ethical judgment to slavishly adhere to and go along with the doomsday lifestyle of this decadent civilization.

We have an opportunity to decide amongst ourselves whether and how to craft the lifestyle and social norms of a higher, spiritually empowered civilization. We cannot take any other course of action if, in fact, we do not want to suffer the inevitable negative side-effects that are visited upon savage godless cultures.

Do not for one second presume that following the godless savagery of this Progressive culture will provide anything but the most awful of consequences to you or your progeny. It is easier to escape the hold of gravity’s power than it is to walk in the way of godlessness and expect to escape its ultimate consequences for your life.

How can we craft the way of life and social norms of a spiritually empowered civilization, as opposed to simply going along with the savage godless culture in which we find ourselves?

This proves to be a group effort- it is self-evident that a new civilization is NOT an individual affair. If and when a small group, we believe as few as 100-200 families and some 200-500 adults, adopts a common way of life and value system rooted in shared beliefs and a shared identity, the seeds of an alternative civilization are “germinated.”

While an individual cannot create a new civilization, it might surprise the reader to learn that as few as around 300 adults and their families can constitute amongst themselves a self-contained and self-sustaining “culture” amongst themselves.

What the individual can do, however, is start the process of finding like-minded people who eschew the moral depravity and savagery of the present “Progressive” culture and from these draw a core of pioneers who wish to intentionally live and act together according to higher beliefs and values than the culture that surrounds them.

Until now the focus of improving things for individuals has relied heavily on mass change through political power, thus the reliance on the state. This has occurred because the present culture has abdicated almost all real decisive authority from individuals and their free associations to the state, forcing anyone who wishes to make or stop a change to either get political power or face failure in their efforts.

The alternative approach is different- it relies on a path towards independency through mutual assurance and support amongst people who intentionally create norms, standards, and cooperative associations based on a higher, spiritual civilization’s values, beliefs, and shared identity. In every possible way, the new idea seeks to organize activity, behavior, and relationships on a different basis while freeing its adherents from dependence upon the existing godless institutions.

Wherever and however and to whatever degree possible, the new idea seeks out ways to find living expression and manifestation amongst people who embrace it.

In whatever spheres or areas where the individual and their free associations still have the preponderance of power, the new idea takes root, while, at the same time, working to roll back and limit the control of the state in other areas that more properly belong in the sphere of individuals and their free associations.

The initial organizing of a few people, with the intent of establishing their own dispersed community of fellow travelers, is the very first “conception” phase for a potential new civilization.

While much of what will happen and what people will do in terms of building civilization together amongst themselves will emerge and cannot be managed, there are some fairly obvious and reasonable laws of cause and effect that must be observed intentionally during all building phases before the work can even begin. Without ANY kind of roadmap there is no guarantee of ever reaching the right destination, although too much planning leads to too little creativity and participation on the part of all those involved in the enterprise.

In short, while the present culture is becoming godless and savage we can choose to craft a lifestyle, norms, standards, and way of life based on shared beliefs and a shared identity that enables us to step outside of the orbit of this culture, and thus empowering us to escape its negative effects for ourselves and our progeny.

How To Create Shared Affection
William R Collier Jr

How we see others and ourselves determines how we treat people. If we see others as valuable and worth caring for, and if we ourselves as valuable and worth being cared for, then we can and we will care for them and believe that they can share a form of identity with us.

Bringing people together around common goals, asking them to care for one another, and showing them the power of a shared identity all happen with plain old “togetherness”- getting people to spend time communicating and sharing together at the same place and time, face to face, and with regularity.

You have to have a time and space for potential (qualified) members of your community to connect in a meaningful way that they actually ENJOY. If nobody likes “meetings”, don’t use that venue, create activity times for people to DO things together and use small break periods to share a presentation that is interesting and that informs people about the goals, the need for affection, and that constantly presents the shared identity.

Of course, “meetings”, having a discussion and forming a consensus, must occur, but only for those who aspire more to leadership. For those who do not have such aspirations, “meetings” can be extremely wearisome, so don’t try to “fit” people into them if those people are not aspiring to such leadership.

The key thing is not, as you might suspect, your “awesome” ideas and concepts. The key thing is to get people who have shared goals to be in the same space at the same time to do things together, even if those things are just fun and entertainment. Entertain people with a message, give people a fun time and tell them about goals, affection, or shared identity.

Getting people to come together, encouraging them to connect to each other, and giving them things to do or participate in is the best thing to do. Telling them all about your vision and mission and all those other things important, because it adds depth to your community, but if you start with togetherness then shared identity will come and when it does it will have depth.

People cannot identify with something that has no activity and no connectivity with other people, so start with activity and connectivity and then layer in goals, vision, mission, and shared identity in an unobtrusive but persistent and obvious manner.

Activity times can include picnics, open houses, movies, debates, skits, special projects, or problem-solving sessions, among other things.

Don’t just have “teaching” or “lectures”, unless you are training people in something they want to become better at for personal or professional reasons. Of course, as with any rule of thumb, there are exceptions- a deign team that must be quickly brought up to speed must be prepared for “teachings” and “lectures” as these activities can deliver the most amount of content and information in the shortest space of time.

To get people together, call them together, on the basis of an activity that answers a felt need. Whatever the most commonly felt need is, that is the ideal need to address. Is it crime? Call people to a neighborhood watch. Is it low sales? Call people to a sales training session that will really help them. Are church members experiencing an economic downturn? Have a get-together to look for ways to save money by buying food in bulk together.

At these activities, get people to use each other’s names (name tags), encourage them multiple times to connect with each other, get them all to be on a virtual discussion list or forum, and share elements of your vision, starting with the most accessible and readily understandable elements first and building upon them.

People will naturally network, but they often need “permission” to do so- give them permission by connecting yourself and asking individuals “have you connected with at least one other person you did not know before?”

Never just put out an idea or suggestion and leave it at that- find individuals to personally encourage and ask them to do the same thing with at least two other people.

When you do your activity, always be clear that you have a bigger agenda, that the activity is only the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of what a community can be and do.

Frequency is important, weekly get-togethers create continuity and, if done right, can become a highlight to people’s weeks, something they look forward to. If people prefer to watch TV and sit around doing nothing to being at your activity, then don’t blame them, blame yourself and make changes until they prefer coming to your activity.

When people connect with each other, then they are more likely to connect to your vision, so get them in one place at the same time, and, with little guidance or “management” from you, they will grow into common affection with one another.

Part One- The Basis of Togetherness and Common Identity

William R Collier Jr

Community is a word that is bandied about like a panacea for all our woes. The problem is that talk of community rarely ever leads to community. Community, like marriage, requires work.

We can’t have real community until we have created a sense of community within and amongst the people we want to have community with.

Do we want community with our neighbors? If we do, then we need to create a sense of community with them, a little neighborhood togetherness and identity goes a long way towards inspiring and motivating people to DO the things that a community does.

Take away togetherness and common identity of some kind and you have no real reason for people to act in unison for anything. People need these two things, first, as a basis of having community relationships together.

Community includes a common identity, a feeling of commonality, things that are held in common, and people who are in fellowship on a regular basis for specific common purposes. A community can have most of these things at different levels, but the more deeply these things are experienced and the more of them are experienced, the more cohesive the community will be.

Creating a sense of community is all about identity and affection. The other elements of community can only follow these two things- identity and affection.

This holds true for every kind of community.

The first question to ask is, “what is the purpose of your community?”

In a neighborhood your purpose might be to clean the streets, to watch out for children, to reduce crime, and to help people through economic hardships.

In a business, you want to provide a high quality product or service to your customers so that you can earn a profit and make enough money to prosper both owners and workers.

In a church you want to meet one another’s spiritual needs, care for the needy, reach out to the lost with the gospel, and support the work of the ministry.

Whatever it is that you are doing, you have to be clear about your goals. These goals will not inspire or motivate people if they aren’t based on real needs that are also felt needs, if they aren’t realistic, and if there are not really clear action items that, if carried out by enough people, are likely to acheive the desired result.

The next thing to determine is who will be asked to be part of your community. If it is a neighborhood, then it’s all of your neighbors. If it is a business, then it is the people who are part of the business and the people who are its clients and customers. If it is a church, then it’s all the church members.

Communities are exclusive: that means that not everyone at any one time is “qualified” to be a member. People from outside your neighborhood are not qualified to be members of a neighborhood focused community. People who neither work in nor are served by a business are not qualified to be members of that business’s community. People who are not members of a church are not qualified to be members of that church’s community.

Being exclusive does not being closed- while not anyone IS qualified to be a member of all communities, an open community accepts everyone who is qualified. Moreover, anyone who wants to become qualified, by moving into the neighborhood, becoming a customer or worker to a business, or joining a church, is free to do so. The only condition is that the potential member shares the goals of the community and has a stake in the community.

Moving beyond goals and who are qualified to be members, we move into affection for fellow members.

While the community has a common goal, every kind of community must also care for its own members.

In practical terms, if community members suffer then they cannot function and if they can’t function then the goals of the community will suffer. To care for member’s needs is self-preservation for a community.

Members care for one another on the basis of “my good and your good are of equal value to me.” This is affection- to care for the good of others as you do for yourself. This is practical, it isn’t just a feeling, and it is extremely powerful. When people have such affection for one another, they are not easily divided by jealousy and strife because they see that what is good for one is good for all.

Affection need not be reciprocal, although reciprocal affection is best and should be nurtured. In fact, as community emerges, standing within the community should include a requirement of demonstrating common affection for fellow members.

Not all qualified people will participate in community- standing within a community, the right to speak and have influence, should be extended only to people who are qualified, who share the goals of the community, and who demonstrate this common affection.

After affection comes identity. Identity is more than a commitment to goals and people, which are very important, it is a commitment to a shared way of life, a shared destiny, that says, “the fate of this community is MY FATE, my success and happiness is equal in value as the overall success and happiness of this community.” When someone takes on a shared identity, it’s like adding a name to their own name, like the family name (last name) or the old Latin “cognomen”.

When you say “I am a Bethesdan” because that’s the name of your neighborhood or an “IBMer” because that’s the name of your business, or a “River of Lifer” because that’s the name of your church you are saying something powerful- you are saying that this community is now as much a part of you as you are of it.

To obtain a shared identity you need a name that is unique to your community, that is rooted in your goals and the people who are qualified to be members, and that you make the “brand” of your community.

Shared identity cannot come without common goals and common affection, but a community that stops at goals and common affection can only go so far. Only people who take on the shared identity as part of themselves will be willing and able to contribute to your community in a sacrificial manner that truly makes a difference.

Status, which is authority as a stakeholder who can make decisions, should be determined on the basis of demonstrable commitment to a shared identity, demonstrable skills, and meritorious conduct and contributions to the community itself. The most important of these three things, however, is shared identity.

national repentance day

The following is a commentary designed to provoke Christian thought and debate around one question- if we give our vote to a godless, abomidable Party that denies the need for God’s truth in our laws and public policy, are we ourselves participating in their godless rejection of Jesus Christ? I say, yes, if Christians give their votes to ANY member of such a godless Party that officially rejects God and His righteousness, then they are personally guilty of that Party’s sin and have fallen from Grace. You cannot serve both God and mammon, you cannot be both a Christ-follower and a supporter of a godless Party!

America has rejected God, primarily through the godless Democrats who have embraced a godless secularism that defies the truth of God with their love of so-called “gay marriage” and abortion, among other godless beliefs and practices.

The Democrats reject, out of hand, any notion that any beliefs they deem to be based on morality or religion should have any influence over public policy- even if the People VOTE for policies and laws that reflect their beliefs.

Democrats have a peculiar version of “democracy” in which ONLY ideas mined from the depths of their godless beliefs are “allowed” as options for voters. This is like the “democracy” of the USSR where voters could only choose from a slate of candidates picked by the Party.

Democrats want to limit YOUR choices to a slate of ideas, excluding every idea they deem to be “religious” or “moral” and in so doing they are in total rebellion against God.

Republicans are not always much better, but they do not officially and consistently deny the value of religious beliefs, or the participation of people who have strong religious or moral beliefs, in the public policy debate. The Party, as an instution, does not officially reject the need for guidance from the Word of God, but the Democrats do.

We must seriously question the spiritual sanity of any so-called “Christian” who throws in their lot with the Democrats. Christians who can’t support the Republicans or a third party candidate do better by not voting than to give their vote to a godless Party that is the single-greatest champion of blasphemy and abominations in this nation’s history.

On National Repentance Day let us repent of our participation in the godlessness of the Democratic Party and by denying our votes to ANYONE who is a member of this godless and abomidable Party.

National Repentance Day, November 6, 2012
Stop participating in the godlessness of the Democratic Party!

Summary- Is God actively engaged in His Creation or does He only act as a passive observer? Does God actually rule over the nations?

God Rules Over The Nations

The idea that nations can do whatever they like even in disobedience to God without Him responding in some way defies the very nature of an intelligent Creator. Disngagement in Creaton by an inteligent Creator would seem to be most un-intelligent! If our Creator is intelligent, and we say that He is, it is self-evident that He will never play a passive or disinterested role in His Creation.

God is the one who establishes the “thrones”, or rulership, of the nations. (2 Samuel 7:12-13 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.)

God gives the rulers of the nations but so many days to “get it right” before He decides to remove them and, even if they do get it right, they obviously can’t live forever, so a change in rulership is always a future inevitability.[sam id=”2″ codes=”true”]

Make no mistake, God is absolutely in charge! Even if a nation rejects God, He holds them accountable to His righteous standards. (2 Chronicles 20:6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?)

One of the key principles of God establishing a ruler over a nation comes from how we know God has dealt with the nation of Israel. If God is not changing it stands to reason that He doesn’t have one way of dealing with one nation and another of dealing with other nations.

While in details, every nation, like every person, might have a unique covenant with God, every person and every nation has an opportunity to enter into a covenant with God on the basis of the New Covenant.

In 2 Chronicles 13:5 it reads “Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?”

What is this “covenant of salt” and is this a typical means by which God chooses to bless the rulers of other nations?

There are three passages that mention a “covenant of salt.”

Numbers 18:19 reads, “All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee.”

Leviticus 2:13 reads, “And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.”

Salt does two things, it adds flavor and acts as a preservative. Jesus tells Christians that we are to be the “salt of the earth.” Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”

The Bible says in Colossians 4:6, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

God commanded Israel that every sacrifice was to be seasoned with salt as a sign of their Covenant with HIM (Lev. 2:13, Ezek. 43:23-24). Even the Holy ingredients used for the incense offering were to have salt added. “You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure and holy” (Ex. 30:34-35).

In ancient times, a covenant of salt was used to seal alliances between nations- the final treaty was ratified by each side taking a lick of salt to signify that any differences between them were healed.

A covenant of salt, therefore, is a formal agreement between two nations in which they agree to certain things on the basis that any differences between them have been healed.

If God uses this standard practice with Israel, in particular the House of David, to establish His unique covenant with that nation and heal any differences between Him and them, which is His Grace and Forgiveness, it stands to reason that this approach is not a “one-off” approach, it is standard practice!

While God has a special place for Israel, He has given each nation their own allotment of space and time to find Him, to serve Him, and to enter into a relationship with Him.

See:

Genesis 10:5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

Genesis 10:32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

Deuteronomy 32:8-9 When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. For the LORD’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

Acts 17:26-27 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.

Clearly, God has plans for the nations, He is NOT a passive witness but a pro-active and involved Creator who seeks to draw men, as individuals and whole Nations, to find Him and serve Him.

Indeed, God sees us and hears us, and even responds to us, while watching what people and nations do.

Proverbs 15:3- The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good

Hebrews 4:13- Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight

1 Peter 3:12- The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers

There should be no doubt that God is actively engaged in His Creation!

Here are a few samples from Psalms about God, His Kingdom, and His reign over everyone and everything on this earth-

Psalm 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Psalm 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

Psalm 145:12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

Psalm 145:13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

Does God rule even over the godless nations that are not willingly submitted to His authority, and does He hold them accountable for failing to obey His call to submission?

Daniel 4:17 shows us, “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.”

God wants “the living” (people alive right now) to KNOW that He rules IN “the kingdom of men.”

It is true that God’s Kingdom is “not of this world”, but it is not true that God is not in charge, as if the nations can behave any way they like without reference to Him and His Word!

As we see from Daniel, God chooses rulers, He may even choose “the basest of men.” Why?

Well, consider what Ecclesiastes 10:16 says, “Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!” In other words, a nation is under a curse if its rulers act like self-indulged children.

Since God ultimately chooses rulers, or allows them to rule, it is reasonable to say that when rulers who act like self-indulged children are allowed to rule over a nation that this is the hand of God. So, when God is moving against a nation that denies Him, part of His judgment against them will involve letting a ruler who acts like a self-indulged child have power.

The plain truth is this- that God is not a passive observer but an active Creator and that, while HIS Kingdom is not “of this world”, He is in fact actively in daily authority over the nations, holding them accountable to His righteous standard and offering to each their own “covenant of salt.”

Osama Dead

Bin Laden Dead

Osama Bin Laden is dead….killed in a mansion.  As he sends 12 yr olds on suicide missions, he led a cozy life in a mansion in Islamabad.  Now., that comfortable life is no more-

Here is the President’s Remarks on the death of Osama Bin Laden:

The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release
May 02, 2011

Remarks by the President on Osama Bin Laden

East Room

11:35 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT:  Good evening.  Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history.  The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory — hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.

And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world.  The empty seat at the dinner table.  Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father.  Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s embrace.  Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts.

On September 11, 2001, in our time of grief, the American people came together.  We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood.  We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country.  On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family.

We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice.  We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda — an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe.  And so we went to war against al Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.

Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we’ve made great strides in that effort.  We’ve disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense.  In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support.  And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.

Yet Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan.  Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world.

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden.  It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground.  I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan.  And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.  A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability.  No Americans were harmed.  They took care to avoid civilian casualties.  After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.

For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies.  The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.

Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort.  There’s no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us.  We must –- and we will — remain vigilant at home and abroad.

As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not –- and never will be -– at war with Islam.  I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam.  Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims.  Indeed, al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own.  So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.

Over the years, I’ve repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where bin Laden was.  That is what we’ve done.  But it’s important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding.  Indeed, bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well, and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.

Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts.  They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations.  And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al Qaeda and its affiliates.

The American people did not choose this fight.  It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens.  After nearly 10 years of service, struggle, and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war.  These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who’s been gravely wounded.

So Americans understand the costs of war.  Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed.  We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies.  We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda’s terror:  Justice has been done.

Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome.  The American people do not see their work, nor know their names.  But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.

We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country.  And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.

Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11.  I know that it has, at times, frayed.  Yet today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people.

The cause of securing our country is not complete.  But tonight, we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to.  That is the story of our history, whether it’s the pursuit of prosperity for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens; our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are:  one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Thank you.  May God bless you.  And may God bless the United States of America.

May 19, 1931- Apri 27, 2011- David Wilkerson

David Wilkerson, the man best known for writing the autobiographical book, THE CROSS AND THE SWITCHBLADE, and also the founder of the worldwide Christian Outreach ministry for youth, TEEN CHALLENGE, was killed instantly today in a car crash in Texas.  He had recently moved to Texas, where he lived for the last 13 months.  He leaves behind four adult children, two sons and two daughters.

Details of the accident are not yet available, but THE FREEDOMIST has learned that his wife, Gwen, has been life-lifted to a hospital in critical condition.  THE FREEDOMIST asks our readers to pray for Gwen and the Family of David Wilkerson that must now come to grips with this sudden and terrible loss.

We will update this story as we get more information.

We remember David Wilkerson for his stunning message he delivered not too long ago about the state of Christian America, the state of the Kingdom of God, A CALL TO ANGUISH, which we encourage our readers to listen to again, and remember a great man who left a powerful legacy in the lives of thousands, if not millions.

Christian News- Anguish- David Wilkerson audio- commentary- Paul Collier

For my fellow Christians, I call on you to repent for letting the kingdom fall to ruins. I call on you to know anguish, the anguish of death, the anguish of lost souls. Then I call on you take your place at the wall, and rebuild.

For my fellow Freedomists, I call on you to repent for letting this nation be ruined by corruption, concentrations of power, and the silence that followed Kelo v New London, where the Supreme Court granted powers of the land to any government that chose to take it.

More on David Wilkerson’s life:  from wikipedia
Wilkerson served as a pastor in small churches in Scottdale and Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, until he saw a photograph in Life Magazine in 1958 of seven New York City teenagers charged with murder. He later wrote that as he felt the Holy Spirit move him with compassion, he was drawn to go to New York in February 1958. It was then that he began his street ministry.

Wilkerson is well-known for these early years of his ministry to young drug addicts and gang members in New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. He co-authored a book with John and Elizabeth Sherrill about his work with the New York drug addicts, The Cross and the Switchblade, which became a best-seller. Included in the book is the story of the conversion of gang member Nicky Cruz, who later wrote the autobiographical Run Baby Run about his own life. The Cross and the Switchblade has sold over 50 million copies in over thirty languages since it was published in 1963. In 1970, a Hollywood movie based on the book starred Pat Boone as Wilkerson and Erik Estrada as Cruz. The book was included on Christianity Today’s “The Top 50 Books That Have Shaped Evangelicals” [1]

In 1958, Wilkerson founded Teen Challenge, an evangelical Christian recovery program and a network of Christian social and evangelizing work centers.[2] In 1967, Wilkerson began Youth Crusades, an evangelistic ministry aimed at teenagers whom Wilkerson called “goodniks” — middle-class youth who were restless and bored. His goal was to prevent them from becoming heavily involved with drugs, alcohol, or violence. Through this ministry, the CURE Corps (Collegiate Urban Renewal Effort) was founded. It was intended to be something of a Christian version of the Peace Corps and Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA).

In 1971, Wilkerson moved his ministry headquarters to Lindale, Texas, where he founded World Challenge, an organization whose mission is to promote and spread the Gospel throughout the world.

In 1986, while walking down 42nd Street in New York City at midnight, Wilkerson believes that the Holy Spirit called him to return to New York City and to raise up a ministry in Times Square. This resulted in the establishment of Times Square Church, which opened its doors in October 1987. The church first occupied rented auditoriums in Times Square (Town Hall and the Nederlander Theater), later moving to the historic Mark Hellinger Theatre, which the ministry purchased in 1989 and in which it has operated ever since.

Since the 1990s, Wilkerson has focused his efforts to encourage pastors and their families throughout the world to “renew their passion for Christ”. In his own words:

“I’ve been an evangelist for 50 years, but I didn’t want to preach to pastors until I had gray hair, until I’d pastored. Now after 15 years of pastoring, sharing the hurts, pains, and difficulties of the ministry as a pastor, I felt the Lord finally release me, that I might have something to say

Creating A Freedom Community

Raise your right hand and repeat after me, “I swear (or affirm) that I will support the liberty of my fellow citizens to pursue godliness, self-reliance, and self-determination and that I will stand up for the rights, persons, and property of my fellow citizens against all threats of every kind by all legitimate and reasonable means- SO HELP ME GOD.”

Could you make such a commitment?

Do you know people you work with or who live right near you who would make such a commitment and actually keep it?

Imagine if most of the voters in your town or county took such a pledge and also agreed to ONLY support politicians who also take such a pledge and abide by it.

Imagine if most of your local officials, judges, and police or sheriff’s deputies ALSO took this pledge and abided by it.

You see, if you want your community to be a freedom community, this type of pledge, getting people to make the pledge and keep it, will help you to transform your community from a community that is not a sanctuary or safe-haven for freedom into a freedom community.

How can you make this happen?

The key ingredients for a freedom community include: a local freedom press that acts as a Watchdog, Advocate, and Resource; small groups of people who agree to mutually support one another’s liberty and security; and a town meeting based on getting citizens to take the freedom pledge and compelling the local politicians to do the same.

One of these things, the creation of a local Freedom Press, builds the others. Through a local Freedom Press you can gather like-minded people and encourage them to form neighborhood teams that form on the basis of a mutual pledge and for the purpose of getting their neighbors to do the same thing.

Creating a Freedom Press is very simple these days, just spend a few dollars on a domain name and hosting, use blogging software, and use fliers to let your neighbors now what you doing.

What do you write about?

The key things are being a Watchdog, and Advocate, and a Resource and covering mundane news, including school news and events, local community events, local official meetings, and the police blotter. If you create a good information network with local officials and news sources, you’ll never lack for news and information.

Word of mouth is your best asset. People need to know that you are providing such news as the school lunch menu or announcements about new road construction. They need to know that you are a fair and accurate Watchdog, Advocate, and Resource.

Once people see that you are doing these things, they will listen carefully to your ideas on getting people to take the freedom pledge, to form neighborhood freedom teams, and to create a freedom town meeting to ensure that elected officials abide by the freedom pledge!

If you are a blogger or a writer and if you can take and abide by such a pledge, why not drop us a line, tell us about yourself, and let’s see if we can help you launch your own local freedom press.

Just email [email protected].

Even if you don’t email us, we encourage you to consider such an approach. We have seen this happen in numerous communities, in fact one of our clients used our training and is now working with a team of people managing 29 local newspapers, with an online and printed component.

Don’t believe the lie that you can’t make a difference. YOU CAN, and it isn’t even as hard as you might think it is!

America Must Choose: EITHER Freedom For All OR Progressive Slavery For All

The Progressive war on Freedom takes many forms, from taxes and debt-spending to “legalizing” so-called “gay marriage” against the People’s wishes, from massive new regulations to constantly demonizing Freedom advocates, like the Tea Party.

Freedom is in jeopardy: either Progressivism is trounced and denounced by American society or American society will become a society of slaves on the Progressive plantation!

What is Freedom?

Well, Freedom is one of those self-evident things you either get or don’t get. Because Freedom is self-evident, people who are good at rhetoric often parse it and cut it up until they have turned it on its head.

Freedom literally means “the dominion of the free.” Dominion means laws and self-government, and what laws can be better than laws rooted in a godly approach to the way we treat each other and God’s Creation?

If laws must exist and if it is inevitable that every law is based on some kind of belief, ideal, idea, or principles, then it is reasonable to say that Biblical ideas and etc as related to how we treat each other and nature are the best ideas.

Freedom requires “free” people pursuing godliness, self-reliance, and self-determination and having “dom” (dominion) over their lives, their rights, and their property without being threatened.

The two primary elements of freedom are liberty and security.

Liberty comes from “libertas” in Latin, which stands for “the power of freewill under law.” So we speak of godliness (as it relates to the way we treat each other and nature) as the basis of law. We speak of the ability of individuals, their free associations, and their communities to be self-reliant as the aim of law. We speak of the self-determination of the People through a process of consensual decision-making as the means by which we make law.

Security means “to be safe from threats of harm of all kinds and from all sources”- this is security for our rights (personal and shared), our persons (from conception and until natural death), and our property (personal, shared, and common).

If we lack Liberty in all its elements and Security in all its elements, Freedom is in jeopardy.

Freedom is not conditioned on the state, it doesn’t come from men, either one or a few men on one hand or a majority of men on the other hand. It cannot be created by vote or edict, neither can it be subjected to or limited by vote of edict!

In the end, if Freedom is threatened for some, it is threatened for all. We all have to decide if we are Free, if we want to be free, and how we can make ourselves more Free in fact than we are now.

We truly OWN our Freedom from God, but if we continue to agree with our Progressive opponents that Freedom depends on edicts or votes, then we will helplessly watch as all of our Freedom is taken from us.

At present, it remains to be seen whether Americans will put Freedom ahead of their own parochial or factional interests by rejecting every Progressive politician, judge, and institution that tries to offer them 30 pieces of silver (at taxpayer expense) if they will only surrender more Freedom.
