Russia has announced it is about to complete the final construction of the “Power of Siberia 2” pipeline that will allow Russia to deliver natural gas directly to China at considerably higher volumes than they can at present.
Russia’s Deputy Minister Alexander Novak said, “It is in the final phase.”
The move by the Russians to deliver natural gas to China is a geopolitical gamechanger. First, it knits the two economies closer together, which also strengthens the unholy alliance between the two (even as border disputes still remain strong in the background). Second, the Russians and Chinese are already trading without U.S. dollars, and this will only increase.
At present, there is another pipeline currently being used, called the “Power of Siberia 1” pipeline, which was completed in 2019, but this additional pipeline will more than double the output that can be delivered to China on a daily basis.
The pipeline runs from southern Siberia near Achinsk to the Mongolian border. There was no final date given for the completion of the project.
