Former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Santorum is one step closer to announcing a run for president.

Mr. Santorum’s political action committee announced on Friday the hire of two Iowa strategists, the clearest sign that Mr. Santorum intends to launch a bid for the presidency.

Politico reports that Nick Ryan and Jill Latham, both of the Des Moines-based Concordia Group, are currently advising Mr. Santorum’s political action committee, America’s Foundation PAC.

The revelation is the latest to his the 2012 Republican presidential primary. On Friday, Indiana Rep. Mike Pence announced he will not seek the presidency, instead opting to seek a run for governor in Indiana. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney noted on Wednesday that he is “deciding on a date.”

Ms. Latham, who served as Mr. Romney’s Iowa political director, also worked for former President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004.

Mr. Santorum has thus far remained mum over a possible presidential run. The Pennsylvania Republican joins former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty in hiring staff ahead of the Iowa caucus. Mr. Pawlenty’s PAC reportedly spent nearly $74,000 hiring staff during the third quarter of 2010.
