The Red Conservative Rebellion

W. R. Collier Jr- The Red Conservatives are following Erick Erickson and his supporters into open rebellion against the Republican Party and possibly into the political wilderness. They are doing so because of disgust with Donald Trump and the Party shot callers who can be blamed for his rise. Back in 2004 I was arguing to friends that the Republican Party had 10-20 years or so before it would potentially go the way of the Wigs. I said this because of what I saw as a widening gap between the views and aspirations of the shot callers and movement conservatives. The shot callers not only have a more limited aspiration but they tend to read today’s polling data and trends as set in stone and irreversible. The movement conservatives tend to read polls and trends as fluid and reversible. The shot callers want to contain and reduce the size of government within “reason.” Movement conservatives want nothing less than a strict constructionist reading of the Constitution that reduces Federal power to a mere fraction of what it is now. Not only do movement conservatives want less government, they want and demand more growth: seeking 4% and 5% growth may be dismissed even by GOP shot callers who control the Party, but this goal is far more aspirational than settling for an anemic growth for the US economy of 2%...

10 US Sailors In Iranian Custody

W. R. Collier Jr- BREAKING- 10 US Sailors In Iranian Custody- POSSIBLE SECRET NEW US NAVY BOAT MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN Two US boats reportedly run aground on Iranian island due to mechanical failure, 5 sailors on board taken in custody by Iranians who promise to return boats and crews promptly. Among the sailors taken into custody are nine men and one women. Within 18 hours, at around 6 AM US Eatern on the 13th, it was reported the sailors were freed, but not the boats. SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR UPDATES The incident was first reported to US Secretary of State John Kerry, at 12:30 PM on January 12, 2016, who called Iran’s Foreign Minister, a man who he is said to have warm relations with, and he was assured that the crews and vessels would be promptly reutrned. However, it was nearly 18 hours later that the sailors were freed while the boats remained in Iranian custody. The incident occured as the two small boats were patrolling the Persian/Arab Gulf near the Iranian held Farsi Island, which sits in the middle of the Gulf at the more northern end. The island holds a naval base from whence the Iranian Revolutionary Guards debauch often to harrass shipping and naval vessels. It is a 4.5 square mile island. According to reports, the two boats were on patrol when one or both experienced a...

White House Rules On Guns Leaves Much To Interpretation

By W. R. (Bill) Collier Jr- With his January 5th announcement of “executive actions” regarding guns, President Obama offered a sometimes tearful defense of greater limits, common sense gun safety measures, on gun ownership, especially for criminals and people with mental illness. His proposal was presented as ensuring mentaly ill people do not obtain firearms and closing a loophole that allows people, he said, to buy arms online without a background check. The heart of his proposal comes down to allowing medical professionals to report patients whom they deem mentally unfit to the national criminal background check system and...

The Saudi Morass In Yemen

By W. R. (Bill) Collier Jr. – Saudi Arabia’s defense budget has climbed up to around $63 billion, while revenue for the government has fallen from around $170 billion down to around $150 billion- this has caused the Saudis to run deficits, for the first time, to the tune of 20% of their GDP. While falling oil revenues are partly to blame, the shift to massive defense spending is largely owing to the morass that has come of the Saudi war in Yemen against the Houthis. One of the biggest gambles the newly minted King Salman has undertaken, concommitent with the war in Yemen, is a shift away from the massive subsidies provided to regular citizens to cover their water, oil, and electricity costs. A program of privatization and what is euphemistically referred to as “re-pricing”, could see costs shift away from government toward consumers. The retreat in oil prices, and therefore revenue, coupled with the skyrocketing costs of the war in Yemen, has led the king to take such measures, thus dangerously undermining one of the key props to Saudi power over much of the Arabian Peninsula. The war in Yemen is costing the Saudis diplomatically, as well as the UN, tentatively backed by the US itself in a volte-face from supporting the Saudi war, is looking into the 2700 plus civilian deaths since the war began in...

Clean Tax Cuts For America

By W. R. (Bill) Collier Jr – A progressive and a conservative have begun serious dialogue for a proposal to give America Clean Energy Tax Cuts just might be the thing to jump-start the kind of energy prosperity and independence folks like myself have long advocated to make communities and individuals more energy independent and, therefore, more free and prosperous in general. This proposal, if it is adopted, would potentially demonstrate the efficacy of supply side economics in addressing problems while lowering the emissions some believe to be the cause of global warming- but significantly it would potentially pave the way for the kind of reforms that would make you and I more energy independent ourselves, free from the centralized production and control of energy which exists now. This shift in energy independence is good for the environment, the economy, and your freedom! The debate rages about clean energy, climate change, and the causes of climate change. But there are three things I believe are very important to remember, and keep focus on which I propose, should unify us all: Energy creation that is house portable and house affordable and that uses renewable sources increases our overall local and individual independence from the large-scale and centralized systems needed for generating energy from so-called fossil fuels Renewable energy that is clean will reduce pollution locally, and perhaps even globally, restoring a...

The Fantasy of Progressivism- A Sewer of Death

  W. R. Collier Jr- Some 80 plus years ago Oswald Spengler, in his “Man and Technics”, described the final form of “materialism” a civilization takes before it enters a dead Caesarism which he felt had been expressed in the 18th and 19th centuries but which would give way to the fascism of the 1930’s which, though he was no fan of fascism, he felt was inevitable. Spengler was prescient but wrong, at the same time. While he described a genuine philosophy of “materialism”, rooted in Hegel and Marx’s interpretation of Hegel, he failed to see that this ideology...

The ISIS Crisis

THE ISIS CRISIS- By Congressman Steve Russell- Congressman Steve Russell’s Floor Speech on the “ISIS CRISIS” What is interesting is that this speech is being praised from the left and the right, see why here: Watch Full Floor Speech FULL TEXT “Will and Ariel Durant, perhaps the most renown recorders of the history of mankind wrote shortly after their landmark 40-year multi-volume work was completed: “Civilization is not inherited; it has to be learned and earned by each generation anew; if the transmission should be interrupted…civilization would die, and we should be savages again.” It is a warning we must heed. For all of our advancement in self-governance, the rule of law, and the betterment of people’s lives, the world stands in crisis. Our actions toward evil, twisted brands of militant, Islamic, Jihadism in the coming months will determine how humanity navigates the coming century. As Will Durant correctly predicts—we must either prevent the death of civilized life or become savages again. Responding to the Paris attacks, French President Francois Hollande is correct in saying, “enough is enough.” The coalition of willing defenders of humanity is immense. The world looks toward America for our leadership. Why? Why does it have to be us people ask? For the same reason we ask a trusted colleague for counsel; for the same reason a resident asks a neighbor to help him with a...

The Refugee Crisis- Balancing Humanitarian Aid with Protection

From the World Freedomist, Bill Collier gives us an analysis of the dilemma of aiding people in need with the real security risks of inviting tens of thousands of people in your country, some of which may be coming in to do you harm. Refugees Versus Security Bill Collier- The surge of refugees from Syria and Northern Iraq into Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and central Europe has caused alarm bells to ring around the world. The chief concern, and suspicion, has come from the fact that over 70% of all those claiming to be refugees are, apparently, well fed, strapping...

True and Constant Friends

A Book Review – by Kelly Paul When I was asked to review Kelly Paul’s new book, “True and Constant Friends” at first glance, I thought to myself, hmmm… Is this just another book about women? Boy, how wrong was I. As I began to read the book it turned out I could not wait for the next pages of the book to be turned with the anticipation of what I would discover on the following pages. It truly wasn’t just a book about “women” but about very personal stories of seven special relationships Kelly has kept along the way, in all her journeys, and with all the strong women, like her mother and grandmother as she continued to cultivate close ties from a very young age which continues to this day. One unlikely example of Kelly’s relationship “progeny “shares in her book is a very candid and special relationship that is bore out with the Kelly’s family’s housekeeper Ruby while growing up. Ruby invested time with Kelly with her candid talks and she also kept Paul’s head out of the clouds while reminding her not to forget to place her heart into the world of real people. Besides being a book about a lifetime of seven friendships, “True and Constant Friends” is a very special book that also highlights, “Brushstroke of Hope”, original works of art displayed in...
