How Do Christian Movies Stack Up Against Secular Movies?

When one thinks of some of the most popular films, they tend to think of films such as Avatar, The Pirates of The Caribbean series, Toy Story, and Star Wars. Yes, these are are very high-grossing films, but some people tend to overlook the Christian films that have managed to do equally, if not better at the box office. Their popularity was not based on some  extremely agile marketing campaign. These were films that not only were high caliber in production, but whose message was as clear as the window pane depicting their poster.
The most obvious of these blockbuster Christian films is Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson’s most ambitious and controversial film thus far. It’s total domestic gross sales were $370,274,604, which is quite a bit for a film with a $30 million dollar budget. If you look at the figures it beats out the original Star Wars movie, The Lion King, and two of the three Pirates movies. A truly epic Christian movie series is The Chronicles of Narnia, whose total domestic gross sales between the three is over  $500 million. With the exception of  The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (which is ranked 21), they all rank in the top 20 of Family – Children’s Book Adaptation; the list has been around since 1982. Some notable mentions are Fireproof , raking in $33,456,317;  Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie, which collected $25,581,229 at the box office; One Night with the King which managed to make $13,395,961; and another Veggie Tales film, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, which collected $12,981,269 in domestic sales. While some of these have not destroyed chart records or made loads of cash, they have still managed to make quite a bit of money and gain popularity from the secular market.
