Ben Sherwood Takes The Helm At ABC News

Is the new ABC News chief, and oft guest of Glenn Beck, Ben Sherwood, a run-of-the-mill progressive activist or is he something else?

Piecing together his background, one is confronted, at first, with an enigma, little overt evidence seems to surface as to his politics. On one hand, in 1986 he explains how he is not apologetic about being rich and privileged, while, on the other hand, he brags about how “controversial” he is, citing his strong stance on being FOR gun control.

One article, below, says that Ben is literally “hated” by his former Harvard schoolmates who call him a “social climber”.

But Sherwood is best known in non-progressive circles for his book, The Survivors Club, which he touted in numerous interviews on the Glenn Beck show. The Ventura Tea Party actually includes his book on its “reading list.”

Sherwood’s pedigree is Blue Blooded, his book, however, wasn’t, and his views have been seemingly carefully  kept under his hat. What is certain, however, is that a social climber who succeeds in academia and media is not likely to be anything other than one of the “types” of people most favored by ideological bigots in high places- a radical, if covert, progressive.

Despite the Glenn Beck dalliance, we should not expect Ben Sherwood to do anything interesting, like give equal and fair coverage to the views and values of most Americans, but we may expect a more restrained bias towards the Progressive agenda, if at least to improve ratings. Sherwood may be less of an ideologue at his core, but he will conform to the social expectation of the ideological bigots who populate the top wrung of his social circle.
