Pakistan under pressure to revoke death sentence on young mother for ‘blasphemy’

Christian leaders and human-rights activists are mounting a campaign to repeal Pakistan’s blasphemy law, after a young Christian mother was sentenced to death for defending her faith.

Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother of 5 children, was sentenced to die for supposed offenses against Islam. In fact, her “offense” was defending herself against Muslim co-workers who said that Christianity is a false religion. By claiming that Christianity is true, she allegedly insulted Islam.

The AsiaNews service has launched a worldwide petition campaign, seeking the revocation of the death sentence in the Bibi case. To register support for this campaign, send an email to:

This is how it is done:  We call our Congressperson and Senators and ask them to call Secretary Clinton and ask her what she’s doing to get Ms. Bibi pardoned or exiled to the US.  I am.  Will you too?

Then, after we have done that, we ask other people to do that, and help them with the process if useful, like by helping them figure out who our Congressman is and Senators are and their phone number. ( we have provided information below to help).

If Secretary Clinton gets enough calls with enough urgency from enough elected officials… there’s a way, and she’ll find it.  Don’t argue.  Just ask.  Call your federal legislators and ask them to ask her.

That actually works.  Few things are as powerful as voters calling our elected officials with a specific request.

This case is too tragic for words.  Let’s bring about a happy ending for Ms. Bibi and her children.  Fast.  Call your Representative and Senators and ask.
