150 former inmates received applause Sunday, at T. D. Jakes church, for graduation from a program that helps them succeed and stay out of jail. The TORI (Texas Offenders Reentry Initative), founded in 2005 is a mentoring program of The Potter’s House. The program is a 1 year long and includes helping former inmates maximize their potential and reintergrate into society. Nearly 1,000 have completed the program to date.
“I’d like to see us stop the propensity that we have today to make a big business out of incarceration,” Bishop Jakes said Sunday, according to The Associated Press. “I’m trying to show the benefits of rehabilitation.” You go T. D.!
