As Obama issued an executive order affirming prohibitions in current law and in the health legislation against taxpayer money going toward abortions, many were persuaded to feel satisfied, such as Republican Bart Stupak of Michigan, leader of the anti abortion bloc and some democrats who swung their vote.
However, the National Right To Life Committee swiftly issued a statement disputing Stupak’s claim. The executive order promised by President Obama was issued for political effect. It changes nothing,” the group said. “It does not correct any of the serious pro-abortion provisions in the bill.”
Many believe this “compromise” is an accounting gimmick and the reality is that taxpayers would be footing the bill, since health plans that cover abortion would be receiving federal funding. Yes, Obama, you can fool some of the people some of the time but many are wise to you, including me!
