“In God We Trust” Stands In California

A federal appeals court in California has rejected arguments that the phrases  “under God” and “in God we trust” do not violate separation of church and state. The ruling came down on Thursday as the 9th U.S. District Court of appeals panel rejected challenges by Michael Nedow, who claimed the references to God disrespects his religious beliefs. Nedow is an atheist.

“The Pledge is constitutional,” Judge Carlos Bea wrote for the majority in the 2-1 ruling. “The Pledge of Allegiance serves to unite our vast nation through the proud recitation of some of the ideals upon which our Republic was founded.” Amen to that!
