74 Teachers Fired At Central Falls High School

In an example of a “get tough attitude,” a Rhode Island school district  has given all of their teachers pink slips! Some believe the teacher’s  union may be responsible for this action. As one of the lowest performing schools in the state, (only 48% of the students graduate), the government is demanding that the school make changes or close.

The school district proposed a plan that would increase their school days by 25 minutes and include after school tutoring. But the teachers’ union rejected that proposal, saying teachers needed to be paid $90 an hour more for the overtime. The average teacher salary at the school is over $60,000 a year.

Superintentent Doctor Gallo told CBN news that although most teachers agreed with the proposal, the union “threw them under the bus.” So the school district was left with no other choice. So, even though the teachers want to work, the Obama Administration agrees with the firings. What’s wrong with this picture?
