Defeating The Seven Deadly Myths of the Early 21st Century
William R Collier Jr.
The truth cannot win unless people know it and right now what people “know” are 7 deadly myths that are destroying this nation. These myths can be defeated, but to start defeating them we must understand what they are.
The seven deadly myths are:
“The best foreign policy is to build consensus at the UN”- Transnationalism- the idea that the national borders should disappear, generally with a focus on “free trade” and unregulated immigration coupled with such concepts as multilateralism (the old idea of collective security) and submission of every nation’s foreign policies to review by the UN. This is a myth.
“There is no absolute truth, only relative truth”- Relativism- the idea that there is little or no objective truth other than the a priori assumption that there is little or no truth coupled with the idea that in terms of right and wrong or good and bad everything is relative to the people, time, place, and circumstances except for the a priori assumption that not one truth or principle can be applied universally. This is a myth.
“The government is the best means of addressing society’s needs”- Statism- this is the idea that a central government can and should use regulation and progressive income taxes in order to deal with most social, cultural, and economic issues as well as issues of state, subject of course to the premises of Transnationalism. This is often associated with socialism but it can also include a state-corporatist partnership or fascism. This is a myth.
“Muslims will like us if we appease them”- Islamo-Fascism- in many ways this is the enemy of the above three, however it takes advantage of these because between it and those groups hat represent the above views there is a common foe: nationalism, absolutism, and commonwealthism. Islamo-fascists mix a totalitarian theocracy with statism and merely use the relativism and Transnationalism of the West against them. Today they target Jews and conservative Christians but if they defeat these groups their “liberal” allies will be next. This ideology is a myth and the idea that we can appease those who practice it is also a myth.
“Nationalism equals fascism”- Nationalism- this is the idea that a nation must have control over its borders and its foreign policy with reference to other nations but not in a manner that requires their approval, coupled with the idea that the nation must protect and maintain its values, heritage, beliefs, and way of life. The myth here is that nationalism is associated with Nazism or Fascism however nationalism is not aggressive- it wants neither to conquer nor to be conquered.
“Absolutists are narrow minded”- Absolutism- this is the idea that while some truths or principles are relative there are in fact a set of universal truths which we follow to our benefit and ignore to our harm coupled with a respectful understanding that the process of discovering these truths and developing a better more accurate understanding of them is an ongoing process. The myth here is that absolutism is associated with intolerance, narrow mindedness, or bigotry. Absolutists adhere to the idea that coercing people into a set of beliefs is inherently wrong while refusing to question what you think is true is intellectually hazardous.
“State’s Rights Equal Racism”- Commonwealthism- this is the idea that individuals and the communities they belong to are the basic sovereign unit of a nation, or commonwealth, which must have a limited government with a balance of powers and with ultimate accountability to the wishes of the governed. The myth here is to associate this with “state’s rights” and to associate “state’s rights” with those who wanted slavery or with the anti-desegregationists. Commonwealthism holds that individuals are the basic unit of the community, therefore their civil rights must be sacrosanct, and that the communities they form must both represent and reflect the consensus of the people and protect the rights of every member of the community.
The media and the entertainment industry coupled with educators and leftist political activists and politicians have saturated the market of ideas with these myths and the other side has spent its time apologizing for Trent Lott’s innocent remarks or dealing with the artificial controversy stirred up pretty much every time a conservative speaks (such as the George Allen flap).
The Democrats have almost wholly surrendered to these forces and we do not see, at this time, a credible effort by what we might call “John Kennedy Democrats” to take the party back from the “Obama” Democrats who are running the show.
Conservatives need to stop letting the liars and pundits force them to backtrack on every comment or apologize for being human, instead we need to laugh at the supposed controversy, point out the hypocrisy of the accusers, and stay on message in a forceful and dramatic manner.
We need to start a dialogue about the need for a truly viable conservative media that is capable of reaching every American home. We can start by looking at those who are already doing things towards that end and funneling money from donors and work from volunteers to help them all work together for the common good.
We must stop being on the defense and start going on the offense without fear, hesitation, or apology. Once the American People see that we are not sorry for our positions, that we are not sorry for every little word we speak even when someone takes it the wrong way, and we are 100% convinced of the rightness of our cause and totally confident in our inevitable victory they will start to question the myths.
We can never win by trying to appease the media, our political opponents, or interest groups that have sold their soul to the leftist cause. If certain ethnic or economic groups want to slavishly follow the leftists without question then when we win, and if we actually fight we can actually win, they will have to deal with the fact that they will not have a place at the table.
When these interest groups realize that we are moving on to victory with or without them and their constant carping and their constant spewing of the lies of the left they will either choose defeat at our hands or they will choose to join our side in their own self interest.
The myths are just that, myths, and myths cannot stand the light of a constant, loud, and unapologetic drumbeat of truth that is so loud and pervasive that nobody can escape hearing it.
We can win and we will win, the only question is will this generation at this time win or will we betray our children and leave this work to them because we are too selfish and lazy?
